  1. very little.  Maize or Corn was a new world crop.  The small grains, some root crops, etc were cultivated much before corn.

    Rice is also a historically old crop.  The Indians and Chinese harvested rice from wetlands very early on.


  2. Well, the similarities are that maize a form of corn is used all over the world. It probably helped start the developement of farming.

  4. This is a guess:  The indians' introduction of maize to early settlers inspired them to improve on the basic product - corn, as we know it today.
