My observations of dogs I've watched sleeping make me believe they probably dream much as we do.

I've seen distress, legs moving as if running, growling, and muffled barking.

Something is going on.

I think dogs dream about their owners, playing with their owners, having fun with them. Possibly if they have any babies they'll dream about them, babies will probably dream about their parents.

running, playing, chasing cats, etc.  They are so cute when they are dreaming!  They kick their legs and all. Its so adorable :-)  

Also, little puppies dream about nursing.  When my chihuahua was 6 weeks he would do a little suckling thing with his mouth when he was asleep.  It was the sweetest thing :-)
