  1. a) feed scoops are v. useful if you don't already have one - let's you know more precisely how much you are feeding

    b) yes get one - v.v. useful for getting off dust, mud etc.

    c) salt licks can be useful - depends if your horse needs it, if he's getting sufficient minerals in his diet it's not necessary. He may let you know if ne needs one by l*****g the mud off rugs etc., if he doesn't he won't touch it (& then you know!)

    d) I find it useful, especially in winter - put it on mane when clean & makes it easier to get mud off later, also good if you're showing

    e) Used to have one but never used it, only necessary if you don't have a brush/curry comb that'll do the same job

    f) I love these, they're multi-purpose, excellent for cooling off without chills, traveling in cold weather, as an underrug, layering w/ other rugs in depths of winter ...

    g) not necessary unless your horse brushes (legs 'brush' against each other when he moves), but you do need boots if you jump or gallop or if you do fast work outside an arena

    h) not necessary if you've already got something that does the same job & it works well for you - if you think it will make things easier/quicker/more painless then go for it

    i) I wouldn't recommend them - you spend more time attaching the net to it than it would take to fill it. If you want to make life easier, consider feeding hay from the floor, it's more natural anyway

Recommended extras: bucket brush, Gold Label Wonder Gel (for those little scrapes & insect bites), an exercise sheet for cold weather, spare leadrope for keeping in the car (you never know when you're going to need one!), baby wipes (great for cleaning nose, eyes & dock), fly spray, hoof grease (helps prevent cracking)

    Hope this helps!

  2. Salt licks are about the only thing that I would call essential for me.  I already have brushes, don't need a scoop, use something else.  I don't even know what a hay net filler is...I thought that was hay...guess not. Save your money if you  have to ask if you should buy something, then I figure you don't really need it.

  3. a) unless you have all that you need and are in good condition, then don't buy it, unless you really feel that you can use an extra one if another gets misplaced.

    b) flick brush... ^^ same as above

    c) get it!

    d) if you show, then you can never have enough conditioner!

    e) just as in a and b, don't get unless you need

    f) same as a, b, and e

    g) yes

    h) yes!

    i) same as a, b, e, and f

  4. flick brushes, salt licks, fleese rug, brushing boots should be at the top of your list followed by rag fork and main 'n' tail conditioner then if you have money left over i'd get the "luxery's" like the feed scoop and hay net filler ( i call these luxery's as cheper alternatives can be used)

  5. a feed scoop, i just used a coffee can

b the more brushes the better

    c salt, yes

    d is an extra

    e never used one

    f never used

    g never used

h don't know what this is

i just put hay in net

  6. a) you can use a jug or a coffee can or whatever. Feed scoops tend to be overpriced.

b)Excellent for getting the dust out of a coat ( I would get one)

    c)yes - essential

    d) useful but not vital - definitely an "extra"

e)had one never used it and got rid of it when I had a clear out

f)useful thing - again not vital

    g) vital IF your horse brushes, if he doesn't it's just a fashion accessory

    h) never had one - pull them up by hand or use a garden fork

    i) what ? never heard of it

Things I tend to buy when I have spare cash- hoofpicks and  leadropes as they always seem to vanish.

  7. feed scoop.  so you know how much you are feeding.  +  brush for essential grooming  + salt l**k because horses like them and could be lacking in natural salts.  the rest of the things you can put in order of how useful they are for you.  hope that helps.

  8. A- essential

    B- essential

    C- Nope

    D- Essential

    E-Nope

    F- Essential

    G- nope

    H- nope

    I- Essential

  9. If you have a horse already then I would be surprised that you didn't already have some of this stuff!

The grooming mit and mane and tail conditioner are very use full (but you will need more brushes and combs, and definitely a hoof pick!)

The salt licks are a good thing for the horse

You should already have a feed scoop - although you don't really need one

You don't need brushing boots unless your horse actually needs them!

    xx

  10. a)feed scoop--NOT ESSENTIAL.  YOU CAN USE MANY OTHER THINGS, A LOT OF PEOPLE USE COFFEE CANS

    b)flick brush--ESSENTIAL

c)salt licks--ESSENTIAL, ALTHOUGH I PREFER MINERAL LICKS, JUST BECAUSE THEY PROVIDE MORE ESSENTIALS, THEY COST ABOUT THE SAME AS SALT

d)mane and tail conditionor--NOT ESSENTIAL.  IF YOU WANT THEM, YOU CAN BUY CHEAPER HUMAN BRANDS FROM THE DRUG STORE

e)Cactus Grooming Mit--ESSENTIAL, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER TYPE OF CURRY COMB

    f) fleece rug--NOT ESSENTIAL

g)brushing boots--NOT ESSENTIAL.  GOOD TO HAVE IF YOU ARE JUMPING OR RUNNING A LOT

    h)rag fork--NOT ESSENTIAL

i)hay net filler--NOT ESSENTIAL.  IT'S ACTUALLY MORE NATURAL FOR A HORSE TO EAT OFF THE GROUND INSTEAD OF FROM SOMETHING UP HIGHER.  YOU CAN GET AN OLD TIRE (A BIG ONE--MOST TIRE SHOPPES WILL GIVE THEM TO YOU FREE) AND PUT THE HAY IN THAT SO IT DOESN'T BLOW AWAY.  OR THERE ARE LOW GROUND-FEEDING TROUGHS.

Sorry for the capital letters, I know they are annoying to read but I thought it would be easier to distinguish that way since this site doesn't allow any other types of font or things like that!

    Good luck!

  11. Feed scoop-This sometimes isn't needed i do have one but i am sure their is other things that are in ur home u can use.

Flick Brush-Yh i would buy one of these.

salt licks-Yes buy one of these or u can just put normal salt you would use at home in feeds.

grooming mit-i don't have one of these but may be useful.

fleece rug-yes these are good for traveling and for cooling your horse off after rides out or for dryin your horse after bathing.

brushing boots-Yes these are useful if you are doing fast work like jumping they prtect horse from injury.

rag fork-i own one of these and they are good for getting ragwort out your field

hay net filer-i don't have one of these and i don't think they are needed.

  12. a) not essential, as other things will do, but it's always useful.

    b) yes, those brushes are great for getting dust and bits of hay off

    c) yes

    d) yes, if its the spray. if its the actual conditioner then you can use

human shampoo and conditioner which work just as well and are cheaper.

    e) your choice, you might not get a lot of use out of it though

    f) yes! i have two and use them (separately) a lot in winter under

stable rugs for extra warmth and during the day when its too hot for a winter stable rug but too cold for the horse to be naked

    g) always a good idea to keep the legs clean from and cuts or knocks, I always put them on my horse as he is so clumsy. But not essential if your horse doesn't brush.

    h) probably will come in useful. you can always use your hands but that might not be as effective in getting the whole plant out.

    i) would be useful if you're filling a lot of nets on your own, but i think its more money than its worth because you can always just hold it open.
