Question:

What do you think for reception shoes?

I'm getting married next April...I've always been and still am a tomboy and I was thinking about getting a pair of white converse hi tops, which I grew up wearing, to wear during the wedding reception (god knows I don't want to walk around in actual heels all night!). I was trying to think of some way to customize them/make them special and I was thinking that instead of having guests sign a plate or something, I could put the blank shoes by the guestbook and have guests sign them with Sharpies in our wedding colors. Does this sound too tacky? I was thinking of putting a sign up by them but I have absolutely NO idea of how to word it. Opinions on this would help! Thanks!

  1. the guest book idea is great

and if you are comfortable int ehm go for it.  Maybe add some gem stones or enbroider yours and his initials or the wedding date on the tops

  2. I would say it would really depend on the dress.  There are many options for flats that aren't high tops, seems a little tacky to me.

  3. I think this is a neat idea.  However, I would just have the wedding party and parents sign them.... Take them to the rehearsal or something and have people sign them there.  You are going to want your guests at your wedding to sign in a book so you know who was there.  The shoes might be a little difficult to determine who all came, and you probably don't want them to sign something twice.

  4. That is such a cute idea to wear converse at your reception, but I don't think you should have people sign them..

  5. I don't know about signing the shoes, but maybe decorate them with something you like, something that definately says 'you'.

Here is what I am doing; our wedding is 10/25/08 & Halloween is my favorite time of year. We are doing a fall themed wedding, with little Halloween touches here and there. My ceremony shoes are pink maryjane style shoes with a pink bow and a pink skull/cross bones on the bow and my reception shoes are dark red maryjane style shoes with a skull/crossbones on them with a red little bow!!!

They are fabulous and so, 'me'!!! I didn't want heels either or flip flops so i decided to get creative with my shoes (I looked for months to find the right shoes!! But so worth it once I found them!). i chose pink since I love pink but it is in no way a part of our wedding colors and the dark red shoes will match my bridesmaids ;-)

You can do whatever makes you happy with your shoes! Personally, I have been more excited about my shoes than most everything else! LOL!!

  6. i wore white flips flops

  7. this is a unique way of keeping ur wdedding memorie and i like it ..but just dont use them for your reception ..what u can do if you dont like heels wel ljust wear some flats so it doesnt look so takky.

but i like the signing shoes idea hope everything comes out great=]

  8. OMG that is amazing and unique! I love the idea! Not tacky at all!

You could put up a sign that says "Please sign our GuestShoes" lol

Everyone will get the idea when they see the markers and shoes!

Best of luck with your wedding!

  9. There are wedding slippers that you could purchase. Check out David's Bridal's webpage.

  10. I think white converse high tops is a CUTE idea.  It gives a little piece of you to your taste to the glammed up you in a wedding gown.  I love it!  Try glueing rhinestones, or painting a blue heart on each shoe (for the something blue) or leave them as is.  I can't picture anything cuter than a glimpse of white sneakers under a beautiful gown, it shows your personality!!!  Congrats and good luck!!!!!

  11. You can get wedding flip flops (Google them) that are comfortable but still look okay.

If you're going to change your shoes for the reception though, make sure you have your dress hemmed accordingly. If you're wearing three inch heels for the ceremony, you're going to be tripping all night long.

Signing the shoes is a cool idea, but it sounds like it's a very personal thing. If your fiance is good with the idea and you have big enough shoes to fit all your guests, go for it. If he's not so into it, skip it. This is his wedding too.

  12. Good idea! Lots of brides wear flip flops of bedroom slippers. Be comfy. I wish I had a pic to share, but when my friend got married this fall her husband and her (now) 2 step sons all changed out of their dress shoe and into matching adidas shell toe sneakers. They were comfortable and it was really cute.

  13. Your wedding. Your rules. Frankly, I think you should do what is comfortable for YOU. Too many people ruin their own wedding wondering what other people think about little things that don't really matter. That's my opinion.

  14. well your idea is unique I must say...your side of the family will probably "get" it...they already know you.  However hubbies side of the family may not understand it.  It is your party, you can do what you want.

Just an idea here...why not wear sandals, flip flops, flatties for the reception, just to be a bit on the dressy side??  not sure if you have tossed that thought around.  Otherwise, you can do what you want, the signing of the high tops certainly will be  remembered.  I know a cousin of mine wore cowboy boots under her long white wedding gown the whole day...ceremony reception and all..it worked for her

  15. well instead of decorating it with different colors with sharpies-you can go to www.converse.com and design your own-or you can call different friends or people from your family  and have them go online to converse.com and say what colors, laces, etc. they would like to see on you. i personally think you should make the converse gold color and maybe have the bridesmaids all where converse too. people actually have had converse weddings-crazy as it is! hope this helps!

  16. I wouldn't have the guests sign your shoes.  However it is common for brides to change into more comfy shoes for the reception.  Some go with tennis shoes, slippers, flip-flops, etc.

My mom made me a pair that were similar to the ones in "Father of the Bride".  They were white canvas shoes.  She took out the laces and used satin ribbon in the wedding colors and attached a few things to them.  No one saw them but the fact that she took the time to make them for me and that my feet didn't hurt were all that mattered!

  17. My bridesmaids and I decorated white flip fops with flowers and beads at my bachelorette party to wear at the  reception. We got a picture of our flip fops.

  18. That sounds a little strange.... (ONLY if it is a VERY traditional wedding. If not then.........)

i think that if you would cherish those shoes, then you should do it. Do most of your guests know you are a tom-boy? If they do, then you really should. But if they don't, you don't want to shock them or anything like that.

I think that's an original idea. I LIKE it!

    Good Luck! :-)

  19. i think its a really cute idea i like things like that that are diffent....i guess because im usally a little diffrent i tend to suggest to people to go bear foot because personally thats how i like to be and thats how i was at my wedding i kicked off my dress shoes and enjoyed the night al natural LOL if this is something your more comforable with i say embrace its a neat idea that will make you smle for years to come :) good luck and congratulations

  20. I don't think you should have the guests sign your shoes. There isn't enough room on the shoes and they'd look tacky. You can find something else, with a bit more room and area to write, that still has meaning to both you and your husband for your guests to sign. It doesn't have to be a plate.

As for converse for the reception, that could be super cute! Get a white pair of converse and dress them up with lace, rhinestones, anything you can think of. Use lace instead of shoelaces, and you can line the bottoms with crystals or rhinestones. You can do anything that will add a girly flair to them so they look like wedding shoes. Maybe add a little veil to the back? Anything you can think of, have your girlfriends help you out.

You could even get a black pair for your husband and put little bow ties on the front, so you guys can match.

    Good luck!

  21. Converse has a web site where you can custom disign your own shoes.  I just did this for my wedding.  I am wearing the century skulls pattern on my kicks.
