I was running two miles today and I just wasn't my normal self. I usually come in with times of 16:30 but today I got like 17:45. I have lots of variables that could have affected me today. 1. I was wearing new running sneakers and it was the first time I ran in them. 2. I didn't eat a lot today and didn't drink much either. 3. We ran on flat ground in the sun. (I usually run up hills and in the shade.) 4. I sprinted too fast in the beginning and lost all of my energy. 5. I kept wheezing and I had to spit a lot. 6. My feet were burning because the heat didn't escape ot of my shoe. I almost felt like I was going to pass out! Can you help me, what do you think was it? How can I improve my time? Any running tips would be greatly appreciated. =) By the way I am a long-distance runner!

  1. dehydration plays a much bigger role than you think...you dont have anything to worry about i dont think, just make sure you eat and drink right...heats a killer, it gets the best of us

  2. Not eating and drinking enough will definitely do this!  These are the most important things to do as a runner.  Good shoes are important too- but probably didn't make a huge difference.  Also, going out too fast can exhaust you, but the lack of food and drink would effect you even more.  Try to learn your optimum pace.  Maybe you didn't go out too fast but it felt like it because you were just "out of gas".

Just take care of yourself and continue to train.  When you run- relax and get into a good rhythm.

  3. its prolly because ur not used to runnig in the afternoon because at my school we ran in the morning during the end of the summer i am kinda feeling the same way but make sure u are drinking that water trhough out the day it makes a big difference expecially when it is 90 degress out

  4. It was really hot today. A lot of the people on our team felt really dehydrated and gross, too. It was 95 degrees and extremely humid here. We were all drenched in sweat before we even started our run.

I would definitely suggest drinking a lot of water! What you put into your body is what you will get out of it, so drink a lot of water during the day and eat some carbs around 2 hours before you run.

Did they just cut the grass, or could you smell ragweed in the air? It's more common to wheeze when these things are present in the air.

You could try alternating between your old and new shoes until you get used to them, unless the old ones are really worn out.

I hope your run goes better tomorrow!
