What do you think is a stronger argument for what causes violence, societal norms or emotions?

I'm sort of stuck right now, as to which side I should choose. I know I can't say both, because that defeats the purpose of having a strong argument. It is either, one way or the other.

I guess it depends on the situation.

I would probably say societal norms because in a way it affects the way we act on our emotions, and deal with certain situations.
