  1. What DID happen?

  2. juss give the student an F for tht assignment cusz obviously he/she didnt really do it .

but lyk givin the student suspension or sumtinq is just stupid .

  3. If your smart you wont get caught. I remember when to pass the class I was in, we had to write a  1600 word essay about a historical person. god how easy that was. just go to freeessay.com and type in that persons name, then print, then memorize the essay then turn in. when the teacher questions you anything about the essay your good because you memorized it. They can't proove that you plagerized, because there's about 10,000 essays out there about that person, what are the odds they're gonna find the one essay out there that i used.

  4. To have to do it over.

I got in trouble for that...and my teacher went on and on about it in the hall...i wasn't even paying attention

  5. At my school they suspend you and then you either just fail the paper or you fail the class. I forget which one b/c it has never happened to me personally but ive heard of others getting caught.

It really depends on if the teacher chooses to turn you in to punish you themselves like giving you an F on the paper.

  6. failing the assignment in which you plagiarized. I believe this punishment is appropriate because expelling and suspending are a little drastic. If you're going to get caught plagiarizing then you're going to fail every assignment you plagiarize on. which isn't going to get you anywhere. it's not hard to tell if someone has plagiarized with the use of google.

  7. Plagiarism in high school isn't all that serious - but in the work world, it is. There, it's a crime: copyright infringement, intellectual property theft, etc.

A zero or F on the paper along with making them learn a lesson from it is sufficient. I think failing the student in the course or expelling him/her is extreme, but suspension or detention as punishments don't really teach them anything.

To make them feel a little pain, have them research and write the paper over while sitting in front of a teacher so they can't cheat this time.- I guess that would be at detention or study hall. They won't get any extra credit for the paper, but it has to be good enough to merit a B, and they have to rewrite it until it is.

For a second offense (total, not just second offense in the same class), have them create an oral presentation on plagiarism, why it's wrong, famous cases, what happens if you do it as an adult at work, and present it to the class or to the whole school.

Three strikes and you're out - that's when you expel the cheater.

  8. a good spanking

  9. a zero for the assignment because...everyone takes it way too seriously and come on...it's just high school

  10. Everyone suggests the usual punishments but how about something else?  Besides the usual zero & stuff have the perp wear a sign around his neck stating the nature of the offense & have him/her walk the halls an hour a day for a couple of weeks.  No - this WON'T damage their self-esteem.  It's called justice.

  11. 0 points and redo the assignment.  Perhaps even detention.  It is stealing and it is cheating.  People have no ethics these days.

  12. having plagiarized and being caught and put into your record is enough already.

  13. 0 points on that paper. Because its not fair to cheat when others work hard.

  14. definately a zero. not another chance to write the paper. if it is like a published piece of work, theft charges. or a charge that will teach them not to do it again

  15. O points for the class. meaning the class is a failure.

And Expulsion from school for 1 month...... without any way to make up the work, but maybe salvaging the rest of the classes by doing Extra work, once the student returns.

Why so harsh.... because cheating should not be allowed in any situation, especially in the learning arena,

  16. a f for the paper. because you are copying someone elses work not doing your own.

  17. To fail the course. If they only fail the paper, than they think there is still a chance to get away with it... Then ofcourse, they grow up, and think that they don't have to do anything for themselves.

  18. The same as in college..expulsion. It is illegal to take someone else's words and make them your own. That is what copyright laws are all about.
