  1. Blu-Ray, considering they are stopping the production of HD-DVD players and DVD's alike.

  2. A Blu Ray and Hd dvd's picture quality were totally identical, so was the sound. But when its comes to the player HD Dvd dont have much to choose from plus there format is dead so I would say that a Blu Ray PLayer is better of course.

  3. To answer your question, in my view until HD DVD was discontinued on average HD DVD players were better than Blu-ray players (mainly because they were much more homogeneous with all HD DVD players meeting the complete final specification for HD DVD which means they had all sorts of extra features (picture in picture, secondary audio, Internet connectivity) most early Blu-ray players didn't). That said, the PS3 was -- and is -- a great Blu-ray player (but since it is a game console and cell computer based is arguably not a direct competitor with a stand alone disk player). Whether you include the PS3 or not, overall Blu-ray players didn't stand up to HD DVD players in terms of features/performance (at least not until after HD DVD was discontinued (Feb 2008)).

Note that on a audio and video quality basis the disks looked and sounded essentially identical (any variation was due to mastering differences in the disks).

HOWEVER, a comparison is moot since HD DVD is now discontinued and the ONLY HD disk format that will be available in the future is Blu-ray.

That said, those in the know are still buying HD DVD players wherever they can find them because -- while there won't be any new disks -- the players can play the existing ~500 HD DVD titles and give results as good as Blu-ray for much less money. In fact some movies are still only available on HD in HD DVD format. As a bonus the HD DVD players are all excellent upconverting DVD players so if you could find one for under $100 they make a great player (as long as one recognizes the limitations).

  4. There was a format war but im telling u now DONT buy an HD DVD player as they have lost it.  Theyre creater toshiba is ceasing all production this month .in 2 months it will be obsolete technology without new movies.

  5. Blu Ray is way better, it is crystal clear and the audio is awesome. My Xbox 360 and PS3 play movies, the PS3 is blue ray and 360 play regular dvds, what difference. I watch all my movies on blue ray.

  6. This is what I did, I have a 720p tv and don't have a sound system and wanted a upconvert player. When HD DVD died I got mine for 100 bucks and got 10 dollar movies. So if your in that situation then do what I did and wait for blu-ray to go down in price.
