Do you think declawing or soft tipping cats nails are better. My husband was talking about declawing them but I DONT want too because if they ever get out they wont be able to protect themselves

  1. Also try cutting their nails.  I do it for my two and the four my mom has.  Yes, we're crazy cat people.  Just cut right above where the nail bends.  That avoids the vein and one ticked off cat!

  2. u have i good point but depends on where u live if u live out in the country and u always have windows open i would just do the soft tipping but other wise i would do the declawing

  3. I think you'll find the consensus at this site is declawing is a LAST resort short of euthanasia. I trim my cats claws with a clipper and we have lots of posts to scratch on and have used "Sticky Paws" in the past. My kids are pretty good now. Good Luck

  4. Declawing is cruel. I did it to one of my cats and will never do it again. My cats are indoors only and I watch them carefully so they don't get out. I would be a wreck if I lost them. They are my furbabies. I must protect them.

Definitely try soft nail tips. Or train them to use the scratching posts. It can be done. Get them as many things that they can use to scratch, different types, cardboard, etc.. Use catnip to lure them over.

  5. They can still use their back claws, but I don't agree with declawing. If the cat is an adult many vets won't even do it. Get them a few different things to scratch.

If you have to declaw use laser surgery. They recover quicker and have less pain.
