  1. Hey mlbruno9, SkiMan here.  The best skis!  So many skis for soooooo many skiers.  There is a best ski for everyone because of how they ski or want to ski.  What is best for me is not necessarily best for you.  I like and all mountain ski, one that I can do anything with as long as they have twin tips, I love to ski backwards.  I ski on Salomon Candide's a great all mountain and trick ski.

  2. Moment skis is the best company. They are hand made in Reno Nevada. They have square tips as well. Volkl is a good brand as well but I have heard problems with their skis breaking.

  3. The best type of Skis in my opinion are Volkl. They are very expensive but they are well made and have great edges. The bindings are also very good. Volkl also has many different types of skis such as downhill, racing and freestyle.

  4. Stockli

I have rented Rossingnol, Atomic, Soloman and Stockli.  It may not be a big list because I just started renting because my old skis are making me slow but of all the skis my favorite ski is Stockli.  Because when I was on the LaserCross it kept its speed through packed and powder.  The speed and edging were phenomenal.  Check out this website for best ski types in order may help you.

  5. The best ski is the one I have on my feet for this run. Whatever the brand, go to a demo day and try them all.  Remember the tune of the ski will change how it performs.

  6. Why ask this? Everyone is going to have their own opinion based on the few types of skis they've tried. You yourself have named only 4 brands. There are dozens of companies and sub-companies on the market. There are skis made in giant factories in China and skis made by hand by craftsmen in small mountain towns in the Rockies.

I've tied a lot of skis from a lot of companies. Personally, all of the Freestyle skis I've tried (except Head) seem to light and squirrely. The last demo I did where I was able to ski on twin-tips...they all seemed the same. At a real demo, the skis are all taped or painted so you can't see the graphics. The 4front, Armada, and Line skis all felt relatively the same.

I don't demo racing skis anymore. Consumers like whatever the pros use. The pros use whatever they get from their sponsors. If a company like Swallow made a GS ski and pushed it on the US ski team...then everyone would love Swallow skis.

Telemark and AT skis...I still find it hard to beat K2. I don't care if they are made in China. I still like them better than G3 and Atomic. Black Diamond and Karhu are also good. Still haven't tried the Icelantic skis yet. ScottyBob skis are supposed to rock...I still haven't tried those either.

All-Mountain skis. I'm still having a hard time discounting Volant. They take a beating and come back asking for more. Head is another brand you usually know when you are riding them. The current menu offered by K2, Rossi, Dynastar...they feel the same for the most part. Volkl and Atomics...those feel the same too...stiff, like a Rum and Coke without the Coke.

The biggest joke/marketing scheme in the past 10 years....Salomon "X-Scream". I scream when I see the ticket price. That's about it. The people I see on these are wanna-bes who think they are cool and people over 45 who are trying to relive their glory years.

  7. for racing: atomic

    for tricks: armada or rossi

i do both, i use those types of skis, pros use those skis, they feel awesome, nothing to dislike (although quality differs with price, so, you might have to spend high to get what you're looking for)

    good luck!
