Neither they are both barbaric and painful. The best catherter is the one in someone elses urethra.

If you believe in progress and development then, presumably, the present practice would be better than the previous practice.  However this is not always the case as present practices are sometimes inferior to previous practices as sometimes the new practice is much faster at the expense of other factors such as risk factors.
