  1. There must be 500 Bests...

Certainly the final 5 minutes of "The Usual Suspects" is in the running,

with Kevin Spacey as Verbal Kint courting the film's course.

Or from "Seven," from the moment Morgan Freeman opens it

all through Brad Pitt's demanding, "What's in the box?!"--

look, there's the ol' Kevster again!

How about in "Marathon Man" during the Dentistry scene

with Laurence Olivier, Dustin Hoffman and the goons who, note,

couldn't bear it themselves and had to leave the room.

    "Is it safe?"

I'd love to go on..."Misery" is a showcase of stunningly

accurate portrayals of humanity--Kathy Bates is so

convincing, at times one easily forgets it's "only a film".

Al Pacino in "And Justice For All," saying..."you want to know why?

    Cuz I'M GONNA GET HIM!"

  2. V For Vendetta.

When Natalie Portman pulls the lever and the train takes off. And Stephen Rea "who was he?" and then she gives her speech about how he is all of us while all the people of london walk past the military guards and stand in front of parliament and watches it explode and everyone takes off their masks and you se all the people who have died for freedom. All while Tchiakovsky's 1812 Overture is playing.

I saw it in theaters and i seriously had goose bumps and started to tear up. Greatest moment in Anarchy history.

    Thank you V, thank you.

  3. The Dark Knight

Commissioner Gordon is told that the Joker has escaped.

And then Gordan realizes that the Joker planned to be caught and wanted to be locked up. Then as soon as the camera cuts it shows the Joker sticking his head out of the back of the swerving police car, the sirens dull, the screeching sound of the wheels disappear, and the audience is left (for 7 seconds) to watch the Joker sway back and forth with maniacal passion while the bass is turned up on the volume, so there is no music or sounds from objects but rather a humming as if you hear what the Joker himself is hearing (wind in ears)

here is the link to the clip

( The Joker part starts at 0:29 )

They say silence speaks louder than words, and personally I think those 7 seconds (10 if you include the 3 with noise) speak volumes without any dialog. In my opinion it is the best 10 seconds of film making I have ever seen.

  12. When Elliot asks E.T. to stay then E.T. asks Elliot to come then they both say ouch, then the mother chokes up because she finally sees "it".  I have a lump in my throat just thinking about it.

There is a scene in the Breakfast Club that I liked.  Its when the teacher has the bad-boy character (something Judd) in the cupboard and is shouting at him and telling him to take his best shot because he'll have an excuse to beat him up.  The boy was scared and didn't know where to look.  You seen it from both points of view - a teacher trying to deal with an unruly teen and knowing he'll get no backing through proper channels.  A teenager that's never had a break and always acts like a big man until the chips are down then suddenly he was a child again.

  13. THERE ARE SO MANY BUT ONE OF MY FAVORITES IS THE SCENE IN INDEPENDENCE DAY WHEN THE PRESIDENT SAYS "WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT,WE WILL NOT VANISH WITHOUT A FIGHT! WE'RE GOING TO LIVE ON! WE'RE GOING TO SURVIVE. TODAY WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!

  14. wow there have been some great answers so far.  The V for Vendetta was great, and so was the Dark Knight.  I'd would add that when Lionidas gets crowned as king of the spartans, that was cool.  He comes in with the wolf pelt and the snow is falling as they lower his helmet into the snow for him.  The last scene in that movie when they charge is awesome as well.

But can we forget Braveheart when William Wallace has gone through all the torture, and laying open on cross when given a chance to say mercy shouts FREEDOM instead...  Fantastic moment... One of the best for sure

  15. When Mary Katherine Gallagher explains to the Headmaster why she sticks her fingers in her armpits.

  17. When the wicked witch was doused with water in the "Wizard of Oz"
