What do you think is the long-term answer to the mindless vandalism and bad behaviour of some (only some) of our youth today? When is there going to be a backlash against it? Who should really be dealing with it and how? Please don't say the police.

  1. I guess we haven't tried Selective Birth Control yet..nor Mass Euthenasia. No,  we don't have time for that.  Or the inclination, right?

Well maybe, then, parents have a job here.

  2. Parents need to realise that it's their responsibility to make sure their kids are growing up to be good people

Schools can only do so much and the police are only there for when things go wrong.... someone needs to be teaching these kids values, and a lot of the time, when kids do something wrong, the parents will come back with a response like 'well, that's what kids do'.

They will blame anyone but themselves.... I didn't get in trouble with the police as a child because I knew my mum would have killed me... kids these days know that they will get away with it!

  3. Its sometimes the case that parents of these youths are quite respectable people and do their best.  Its ok saying its all the parents fault but that is not always the case .  Some kids are completely different in their own house amongst their own family.  Its when they hit the streets with their mates that the trouble starts.

I think something should be done by the government first because its them who decided parents cannot smack their kids or discipline them;  its them who decides whats breaking the law ,  whats anti-social behaviour.  Its them who continually find other scape goats to use when something they decide c***s up.  With youths its been the parents fault,  the families fault,  the schools fault , the social services have been to blame ,  the police ,  not enough youth clubs , then the parents fault again.

  4. Better Parenting. It is there responsibility to control their kids yet they seem to  forget this and somehow it becomes the police, schools and other authorities responsibility to control the yobs littering and vandalising our streets. Before anyone argues back, I do understand that some children can be difficult to control, but this still doesn't change the fact that it is the parents (or legal guardians) responsibility.

  5. A fairer society has to be the answer.

  6. The Value of Hard Work is a good replacement for the time "otherwise spent".

I believe the sentencing should be:  picking cotton for a season or more, picking strawberries, onions, cauliflower or anything the migrant workers do and never ever complain about because they are afraid of Immigration.

This would kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Since Immigration would have not much to do anymore, a branch of theirs could run it.  That, or Child Support.

  7. i blame the parents theres not enough of respect these days!

  8. I'm a firm believer that this new generation of mindless yobs (the same generation as me) is due to poor parenting, lack of discipline and recreational drug use. As well as celebrities, namely gangster rappers, being idolised by adolescents.

The long term answers screams discipline and authority. I read nursery workers have to change babies nappies in pairs now to protect themselves from possible accusations. It's back to political correctness gone mad. The government seems to think throwing money into new ideas works when clearly systems in place 40 years ago meant fathers weren't battered to death by 16 year olds on a bender.

Bring back respect for authority by bringing back authority.

EDIT to the comment beneath this one: "There is no outlet for adrenalin." Apart from millions of fields to kick a ball about, beaches to surf, rocks to climb.(things children have done for centuries) I'm sorry mate but you're grasping at straws. The problem is poor parenting. Or do you think, kids think its ok to stamp on peoples head until they die because of built up adrenalin?

As a firefighter I recieve abuse some days from youths for turning up to put out cars they set on fire because they were bored. I tell them their mum's house could be on fire now with her inside and I won't be able to go because im dealing with the car fire. They normally shrug their shoulders.

  9. shoot one or two of them the rest would soon toe the line

  10. Responsible parenting, incorporating discipline, teaching respect for authority, other people and property. More Police on the streets, a Justice system that actually metes out Justice and Boot Camps for young offenders run by Ex Sgt Majors. Parents of offenders should be fined and have any benefits stopped.

  11. Well we used to send the "baddies" to Australia.  In this day and age we should be able to send them to the moon.  Uhh, but that, in my view, is still not far enough away.  I also say MAKE THEM WORK.  HAAAARD.  Give them a decent wage, a good standard of living, then they would not have any energy or desire for their mindless behaviour.

Who should deal with it?  Every single one of us!!

    People Power.

  12. Better parenting - sorry. But parents are responsible and accountable for the upbringing of their offspring - sadly, too many think that once a child starts school the parents can continut their own lives and leave their children to fend for themselves - without nurture, nature takes over - i.e. survival - and kids will do what they feel they have to do, because they have no values instilled from parents as benchmarks

  13. bring back hanging

  14. National service in the Armed forces, if the youth want to behave like savages then stick them in the army they will soon get tired of fighting then.

It  will make adults out of them and teach them respect, responsabillity and accountabillity plus it will get them off the streets.

  15. If you will pay close attention to these crimes, you will find that some races are doing it much more than other races are.

  16. All ways been there, all ways will be...

We tolerate billboards, why not some free art? It's a wealthy society and apparently liberal and democratic so why not build some huge grey walls and hold graffiti championships to make heroes and not criminals.....We could show extreme tolerance by inviting winners to lavishly decorate for the Olympic games.

There are no outlets for Adrenalin, no places to just be a youth, we run their world and blame them for their digressions, we do not listen to, ask, consult. Until we treat our kids as equals they will not behave as such.

  17. We should have some form of national service from the age of 13 - 18. Starting form 13 they will have to spend at least 2 hours a week learning to drill and look after themselves. The training is progressive, until at 18, they must spend a year, full-time, doing proper military training and discipline. Countries such as Singapore and Israel do it and they do not have a yob problem.

  18. Discipline and respect for the property of others begins at home.  Parents make them but don't always shape them.

  19. parents should be aloud to discipline their kids like our parents disciplined us, youths today(only some) know we can't do anything.....
