Well, all of you might say that media awakens us, informs us, educates us, and so on. But, what about the media serving the common man? Besides informing and educating him, does the media do anything for the common man's justice? There are so many people who are starving to deatch due to unemployment, whose court trials are getting postponed year after year, who are not seeking adequate attention for their griefs and problems from the government or at a smaller level, lets say from their higher authorities. What is the way in which the media tries to give justice to such cases?

bottom line,

IS THE MEDIA A MEDIUM FOR JUSTICE?

  1. Please tell us what nation you are interested in studying.

If you mean the development of Ireland, that is one story about how the news media affects the public and causes people to reassess commonly held beliefs.

If you mean the U.S., then you need to understand the media was partisan before and during the American Revolution  and did not have the form of common-carrier status of the U.S. press today.

If France is the development you are learning about, then pro-government and anti-British propaganda about America played a major role in setting the groundwork for the French Revolution.  The press if France also led to the common term of journalism being the "Fourth Estate."

If you are an Australian or from the Union of South Africa, the role of the news media was completely different in the development of those nations.

In most cases, the initial uses of the news media evolve as the national society develops because the press changes as the society's needs -- and the utility of media -- changes.

(In mass communications, the term "utility" means the "use" of media.)

The news media is a tool for people to use as wise consumers of news.  Journalists can only present facts to the public and pressure government to aid the people.  If a society ignores the information presented in the news media, most issues just fade away and the ruling class gains even more power.
