For me, it's when I read about the 1919 Chicago White Sox threw the World Series. Regardless of why a lot of the players did it, it was still heartbreaking and a major disappointment to baseball. They should've played for the love of the game.

  1. when the colorado rockies got beat up by the red sox in the world series last year. I was sad, and I still am.

I really don't know much history in baseball but that series stands out alot to me. =(

  2. the year the cardinals got beat by the red sox in the 04 series was disappointing to me

  3. While the Black Sox scandal, and Pete Rose being stupid enough to bet on baseball were both pretty awful, the more than 60 years that black ballplayers were not allowed to play is much worse than anything in baseball history.

  4. The Strike.

  5. All those strikes occuring through the game.

  6. The day the PC world took over and made little leaguers where face masks -

  7. 69,71, and 79 world series'.

  8. Collusion in the 80s, Pete Rose, all those teams moving in the 50s and 60s.

  9. The Steroid Era.

  10. Pete Rose should be in the hall of fame.  But the worst was the NOT FINISHING A GAME - THE ALL STAR GAME.  There are reasons for everything in baseball history from diseases players got that were tragic to family and fans to favorite teams making mistakes that your little leager wouldn't make to lose a game.  But with all of those items a reason was present.  There is no reason not to finish a game.  That is like starting CPR and just stopping because the nurses making a billion dollars each are to tired to continue.  Just doesn't cut it - The comish should have been fired for that one and every player on the all star teams that year should be ashamed.

  11. that they had to catch with their hands which could probly hurt

    their hands.and you

  12. The game I love has had a lot of ugliness in its time:

    Black Sox

    Pete Rose

    Steroids

    Segregation

    Tony C

    2003ALCS

    Game 7, 1967 WS

Thee first four are more universal, the last three are actual moments, rather than multi-year occurrences

  13. when boston won the world series. ugh

  14. That I've witnessed: the 1994-95 strike and the cancellation of the rest of the '94 season and postseason. I understand why it happened, but good faith negotiation (from both sides, though I blame one more than the other) could have resolved this without that much waste.

Ever? Gotta be that selected games of the 1919 World Series were thrown.

  15. Just the fact that until 1946 for the mlb not to let black players play in MLB was a disappointment, following that is the black sox scandal, then steroids and then Pete Rose betting.

  16. Having so many players experiment with steroids when that c**p does not even help you with batting, hitting home runs or pitching over 100 mph.....  If hundreds of ballplayers in the major and minor league circuits used steroids, then why were there only a handful of players (Brady Anderson, Ryan Howard, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Alex Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Ken Griffey) that basically hit around 50 in a relatively short stretch of time, instead of the 100's alleged to have taken it, even though it was touted as a performance enhancer....

I could care less about the "Black Sox" scandal because I was not born yet, all professional athletes gamble or bet and all professional sports are not immune from scandal or controversy.

  17. I would say when Lou Gehrig got that disease. He was a great player and it is so disappointing to see that he had to retire way too early. And the 1919 Black Sox scandal is also a big disappointment.

  18. either that or the years where there wasn't even a world series: 1904 and 1994
