What do you think is the natural state of our emotions?

Newton said the natural state of objects is to move in a straight line forever, unless some other outside force acted upon it like gravity or friction, so what do you think is the natural state of our emotions?

Emotion is a complex system of neuron firings in the brain. They need a stimulus in order to fire, and come to an end... So I would have to say that their natural state is at rest.
