What do you think is the root problem of our schools?

I have been looking at what a mess our schools are in (especially since I have two daughters in elementary), and I cannot help but wonder how we have gotten to this point. I mean our school districts are in both financial and moral trouble. What do you think is the root problem of our education system today? Do you think it is the students, teachers, parents, administrators, community, or government's (etc) fault? Or do you feel some monumental event has set us on the path we find our schools in? Do you think that there is anyway to correct it or is it just hopeless? I believe that we, as a society, must take a stand--let's start here;-)

Alot of the problem in my area is the teachers really don't seem to care about teaching the children they are more interested in putting them on med.to get them to sit still,they say they don't have time for that kind of students.Virtual school is becoming a big thing.

i think education is not valued like it used to be. It depends on different countries / schools/societies and cultures but there is a lack of motivation.  Education used to be the foundation to getting a job and earning money. However now you don't even need a good education to get paid.

From teachers and students..  Maybe cos teachers don't get paid enough..   hOWEVER thats another problem

i find it unfair that there is a huge gap between the private and public education system... in australia.. I went to a public school in year 7 and 8 and moved to a private school in year 9 and found a huge gap and im not only talking about academics. Wealth should not determine your education. It is unfair.

well some of the teachers , they just arnt ment to be a teacher so sometimes its there fault if they could control students things wouldnt be so bad

but also students now a days just miss behave because what they see on t.v or maybe a roll model who isnt a good roll model
