What do you think is wrong with my sister?

My sister is extremely paranoid about everything. She believes that everyone around her can read her mind. She's also very obsessive and little things tick her off. She tends to act on impulse and do things in excess. She has insomnia and can never think. When you talk to her shes never really "in the conversation" shes always daydreaming and not focused. She has terrible headaches every day. I think she might be a pathological liar too. She starves herself and then binge eats. She has always been drawn to excess. She lies about everything big or small, even when its not necessary. She can be homocidal or suicidal at times. I know for a fact that she's not on drugs, but shes been waiting for the opportunity to try some. She just had a brain scan and everything was alright. We only mentioned the headaches to the doctor though. Does anyone know what might be wrong with her?

  1. Only a doctor can truly answer this, but my experience has shown me that this is classic dementia behavior. My uncle, great grandmother, and a cousin all have severe bipolar dementia. It's a lot more than just the bi polar disorder people talk about on tv. There really aren't any good commercials, websites or anything that go into a great deal of detail about it, but it sounds like lithium or another alternative drug will be needed for her. It's really sad and difficult for the family to handle, but with a lot of love and support for your sister, it'll make everything a lot easier for her to be able to live a normal life. It's something that is uncontrollable, unfortunately. I don't know exactly all the details of your situation, but if I were you I would look up those symptoms for dementia online and see if they match up to hers. With bipolar, they have highs and lows. They do things in excess and then they stop. Sometimes they do become liars and paranoid and then sometimes it's like it never happened. It's extremely hard to discribe, but I hope this helps a lot. I really hope your family can find solice in finding treatment for your sister.

  2. Has she always acted like this or has it just started or gotten worse recently?

She really needs to see a psychiatrist and get evaluated- my first guess would be maybe schizophrenia or bipolar disorder but I'm not a doc or anything so it really is just a guess. I'm sure there are tons other things that cause paranoia/delusions and this type of behavior.

It sounds like she probably has some kind of serious mental illness though if she doesn't have anything physically wrong- since she got a scan its probably not anything like a brain tumor. Your parents need to call her doctor, explain everything that has been going on, and get a referral for a psychiatrist. I'm guessing that she is a minor and they can do that for her?

  3. I think she has schizophrenia

  4. She most definately had some form of OCD,(obssevive compulsive disorder). get her into therapy if she wont go have a family intervention or as last resort, commit her so she is diagnosed properly.   good luck.

  5. She needs to be evaluated.

No-one responsible or worth listening to,

would try to do it on the basis of your description.

You must know that as a sibling, your opinion

    is highly suspect.
