Was it the work they did in the First World War or the womens suffrage etc?

  2. I think men got tired of their nagging, and just gave in.

  3. Many of the women involved with the women's suffrage movement were from the middle and upper classes and so had a degree of second hand power. My grandmother was one of the few working class women involved at the higher levels as most working class women did not dare to lose their jobs and were paid only enough to keep alive. My grandmother was a tweeny maid.Amongst her activities included chaining herself to the railings outside the houses of Parliament, imprisonment and forced feeding when on hungerstrike,damage to public property, and being batten charged by mounted police whilst pregnant with my father. Considerably more risky than waving a few banners and singing a few songs. Many women were prepared to go to extreme degrees and to take extreme risks to put their point over.

  4. Sheer persistence and determination. Those chickies knew how to put up a good fight!

    WWI work certainly was a contributing factor, but not the whole story.
