I was searching through ebay for a new bridle. The one i want isnt anywhere around me.

I found this one for only about 20 dollars. But i dont know how good it works. My mare is a little stubbern. She is just getting used to riding again, she is about18. I have been riding her about every day for the last two weeks.

I have never used a bit on her, and i dont plan on it either.

but do you think that one will work out well?

  1. those hachamore type bridles are usually only good on a horse that has been taught to use one if your mare plays up with a bit in her mouth it wont be any good tro you but if she is quite and responds well to your commands you shouldnt have a problem i gues you dont mind spending the money you can just give it a try and see wat you think leah

  2. Interesting.  My Appy gelding rides with a halter but I want something 'sharper'.  I might try this.  Good luck.

  3. It is only good if you ride off seat and legs, and your horse is trained to stop on those cues. Try it out in an arena to be sure she respects your cues and is safe to ride in it before taking her out in open areas.  I would advise the same thing any time you change headgear...it's better to be safe than sorry.  Many horses do fine on this type of headgear, but you can't know that until you try it.  At $20.00, why not try?

  4. if she is stubborn, i would use a bit. it reinforces your commands and what you want instead of fighting her.

  5. Should work fine, I used to use a bosal bridle on my mare but that was a little spendier; had a rawhide noseband and horsehair reins, but was super nice. I commend you for going bit-less, shows that your horse was trained well. I don't know if he makes rope bridles, but I like Clinton Anderson's rope halters as they are tied on certain pressure points and works well...maybe check it out and see if he offers bridles (guess I've only heard of the halters myself)...but there you might spend more money. Have fun!
