I have 5 kids, pregnant with twin girls, and three of my children are girl, one 13, one 14 and one 1. My 13 year old and 14 year old have The Care And Keeping Of You from the American Girl Library. I personally loved the book because it's helping them through puberty.

However, on Barnes N Nobles website some people called it a "p**n Book" and a "Bad influence on young girls". One person wrote this:

Here is a letter I should write to American Girl Library: American Girl Library, HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO INNOCENT CHILDREN ALL AROUND THE WORLD! First, you write a p**n book, and encourage young girls to buy it. Then you call it 'The Body Book for Girls.' I must say, a mother's job is already difficult, but you made it WAY worse! Shame on your wasteful book! -Natalie

For those who have read or have had daughters whom have read it, do you think it's a p**n book?

  1. That is ridiculous! My mom actually just bought me that book a couple months ago and it really helps! My mom kept going on  and on about how that would've helped her when she was younger. So did my grandma. I don't how that could be p**n. It is a bunch of BULL c**p. Those people don't know anything don't listen to them. You know the right thing.

  2. I read the book when  I was a p*****n. It helped me a little. I'm ethnic so the hair advice and stuff didn't help, I was a "nerd" so the friendship stuff didn't help, but I developed super fast so the body stuff oh boy did it help me! It wasn't considered p**n to me then...I'm not even sure if I knew what that was back then. I also read Carol Weston's Girl Talk. I don't have kids but here's my suggest if you like the book use it. Don't let it teach your kids for you but use it as a tool. Good Luck!

  3. That's ridiculous.  It sounds like someone needs to readjust the stick that is firmly implanted up her backside.

It's a book about puberty, which is something that everyone goes through.  There is nothing dirty and shameful about it, and if that's her attitude, I really feel sorry for her children and what she must be teaching them about their own bodies.  She makes it sound like it's a how-to manual about losing your virginity!

  4. i got this book when i was 10 and started my period when i was 13 but it helped me a lot especially in the tampon department because i am very athletic. it is definitely not a p**n book. i would give it to my children (if and when i have children)

  5. I was glad to find it for my 9-year-old, and wish there were a comparable book for boys.

Anyone who doesn't want their p*****n or teenager to know that kind of thing is really doing their kid a disservice.

The book is actually wildly popular, so I'd guess that particular review was really an aberration.

  6. That is so ridiculous, that was written by some extreme christian fanatic I guarantee it.

My daughters are 7 and 9 and we have the book and I think it is wonderful. It teaches them all about their bodies without going into s*x. It has drawn pictures of the body, they are almost cartoonish there is nothing p**n about it unless you have a sick mind.

  7. That is absolutely insane!!!I'm 11,I have it and it is soooo not p**n.

  8. Well, it just goes to show you that there are many opinions in the word, some of them extreme.

Don't worry about what other people think.  If you find the book appropriate for your child, buy it.

And remember, not matter what you do, there will ALWAYS be someone willing to tell you how wrong you are.

Hang in there and be well.

  9. Well, looking at the reviews on amazon, there are over 200 5 star reviews, and only a handful of 1-2 star reviews.

I got it for my daughter when she was about 10.  I found it great for her age -- if a bit basic.  (Lots of really basic 'hygeine' stuff about brushing your teeth and taking regular showers.)  For a 13-14 year old, I would think it is a bit TOO simple.

  10. My 11 year old loves it - sometimes I walk in her room and she is reading it when she has a question and she still talks to me about it!

I love the book and do not find it pornagraphic at ALL!

  11. i have the book and i am 11. my mom let  e get it, becuase she realizes that im growign up and maybe i dont want to ask her quesitons. besides, that "p**n" is only a section. they also have a healthy food char,t keeping of your hair, how you tshave yyour legs, leeping your teeth clean, and more. its prefectly O.K.

  12. I had the book when I was younger, it helped threw that part of my life, people are so stupid, I mean how can it be a p**n book????
