I think Barbaro was an awesome horse that got all the attention he deserved. Do you think he would have won the Triple Crown if he hadn't had his accident? What do you think of this video clip?

  1. I miss Barbaro, in fact I miss him so much I have his portrait as my screen saver and am using it as my avatar.

I was lucky enough to see him run his first race at Delaware Park in October 2005. That was run on the turf, and Barbaro won. He also won my heart that day! He never seemed to have the "gawkiness" most 2 YO's have, and he sure acted like a professional from day one.

I truly believed that Barbaro had the best shot at winning the Triple Crown of any horse I have seen in the last 10 years or so. I was especially looking forward to seeing him run the Belmont, as I thought the longer the race the better he would run. Unfortunately we all know he never got the chance.

Even though all of his fans got their hearts broken (several times in the course of his stay at U-Penn) his legacy will live on. All the money donated in his name for Laminitis research will hopefully find a cure. We have lost too many greats to this awful disease, including my beloved Secretariat. So rest assured he will not be forgotten!

    Godspeed, my friend, Godspeed.

  2. I think, judging by the lengths of most of his wins, he would have. Barbaro was one of a kind. I would say he is one of the best horses i've seen in my generation. I wish he could have gone on to see the Belmont but accidents happen and no one knows why. it hurts to say goodbye...

    r.i.p. Barbaro

and best of luck to his 2 full brothers Nicanor and Topix !

  3. I just loved Barbaro...  I wish there had been more information on him... like a daily update about his condition...  I would check the horse racing page under Yahoo Sports for information about him every day but there was only rarely articles about him...  I wish that they had daily updates even if they had just said 'still doing well' and a little comment about something funny he did or something like that... sorta like the rags to riches blog they have on ntra.  I was really extremely disappointed when he died... and it came right after he was getting so much better... I mean he was walking without his cast and they were talking about him going home and suddenly he was dead.  I was really depressed for months after they put him down.

I don't know if Barbaro could have won the crown... it's an extremely difficult feat and Barbaro was a very lightly raced horse...  Bernardini ran a good race in the Preakness but I think the real test for Barbaro would have been running back in 2 weeks after he had always had over a month between his races...  and then he would have had to win over a mile and a half after having 2 other races in a 5 week time period.  I think he had the talent to win the crown... I just don't know if the timing would have gotten him.

I liked that video a lot... I love videos where they have race and workout footage instead of just pictures... the song went well with the video too.

I still think about Barbaro sometimes...  I wish I had paid more attention to his racing career before his injury instead of waiting until his injury and it was too late to watch his talent.

edit: to 'i love equine'...  how do you know the other full brother's name??  is that the foal that was just born earlier this year?

  4. i dont understand what happened to him....??

  5. i thought barbaro would have been a triple crown winner, he has now become well known more after his accident and has done more for other horses then any other other. he showed the world what a true champion was and he will be sorely missed by those who loved him. he had such courage and had gotten a lot of respect that he had become americas horse. rest in peace barbaro we still love and miss you.

  6. He was a horse.  A talented one, to be sure....but he suffered the same fate that a whole lot of them do without the fanfare he got.  I don't think he was magical, or otherworldly, or Jesus come again in horse form.  Would he have won the triple crown?  I'm not so sure.  He hadn't been pushed to a mile and a half, so who knows?

  7. He's still dead, right?
