  5. Eu sou Escoces.  Minha Esposa a Brasileira (rssssssss)!

She is from Sorocaba (SP).  I listen to a lot of Brasilian music.  I am particualry fond of music from the late 60's/early 70's.  Before I met my wife I had no idea that you spoke Portuguese in Brasil.  I thought you spoke Spanish there.  Yes, I knew about the football team, as everybody knows Pelé & of course the Carnaval, Samba & Bossa Nova too.

I didn't know however that you guys had such a brutal military regime there for the best part of 20 years.  I would suspect not many people would know that.  In a way that is a measure of just how brutal & effectivet he regime was.

I knew about the death squads killing Favela kids (such as Candelaria) too.

Of course after I met "Minha Menina" I learnt so much more about Brasil, especially so the wonderful hospitality of many Brasilians, especially those with very little.  Seeing the poverty suffered by many whilst the elitist few lived in luxury awoke one of those "Motorcycle Diary" moments in me.  After returning from Brasil to Scotland the first time I was changed forever.

It's a shame that it is very hard to find decent Brasilian music over here in the UK.  What I mean by that is, you can find loads of Samba & Bossa stuff, but hardly anything by the likes of Legiao Urbana, Engenheiros Do Hawaii, Capital Inicial, Titas (to name a few of the bands my wife likes).  I love watching Brasilian movies too & have quite a collection now.  Ironically it is easier to buy these here than in Brasil.

Many people will say "Oh Brasil, it is such a dangerous country & you are likely to be robbed or shot".  This is not true.  It's like any other country.  You must take the necessary risks & you will be safe.  I have flet more threatened in Scotland than in Brasil.

  6. In what sense?  They seem pretty decent, although saddled by a colonial past.  They are constantly struggling with the challenge of balancing a drive for development with the need to preserve the huge and vital ecosystem of the Amazon rain forest - which lies almost entirely within their borders.  Brazil remains the largest nation in South America, and with recent oil discoveries is likely to become a major economic power.

  7. beautiful place with beautiful women
