First off, let me tell a little bit about me before I make an opinion.

1. I am american, thus biased.

2. Phelps is one of my heros, being a swimmer myself, thus being even MORE biased.

3. Stupid actions annoy me. That just about brings it home.

So what do you think about the 100 meter butterfly race in the olympics this year? Phelps has won every race he's participated in so far, but with winning by one one-hundreth of a second, which I know is extremely close, Cavvic's coach decided to protest, whether it was by Cavicc or himself, against the proceedings of the race. I believe that it is completely idiotic.

What do you think of it? China's water cube offers some of the highest, no, THE highest available technologies to the pool and its timing mats, and that its by pressure sensors, and not people-timers. So technically it should be accurate, but by some reasoning, it is still being protested. The coach is biased towards Phelps as well.

What do you make of this?

  1. Honestly, I still can't see who won it. I mean, how can you see .01 of a second? But they have all the high tech gadgets in place, so if they say he did it, then I believe that he did. It would really suck to be Caviacc... can you imagine, losing by one a hundreth of a second? But he seemed to take it well.

  2. I have no problem with them protesting it. It was very close and you have to really look in slow motion to see that Phelps got his hand in there first. At first look, it does look like Cavic got in their first. I would expect any other swimmer in the same situation to do the same.

  3. I think the protest was lame, and I'm glad after they watched the high speed cameras, they rejected the protest.

  4. 1/100 is a very close margin, but it's the Olympics it's pretty common.  Look at how many swims were won by just out reaching the guy next to them.

I guess you could say luck, but like someone else said Cavvic just glided in and he raised his head while Phelps just kept at it.

This is what the Olympics is about one of the things at least to me.  It was a great race.  I would of been proud of Phelps either way (tough talent  and he's racing a though schedule), but he kept the dream alive.  I can't wait to watch the last event, it will be a history in the making.

  5. It seems like so many people are rooting for Michael Phelps. Yes, he's a great swimmer... but that race was so incredibly close it almost seems like people want Phelps to win so much they might have purposely done this. I'm not saying that 1/100th of a second faster is not possible, and it was dumb of Cavic to lift his head before finishing the race, but it almost seems like people are biased because of how well he's doing. And I'm not sure, but I'm pretty positive that more people than just Phelps are getting big money for all his wins.
