The stated goal is to provide additional fishing opportunites for a growing state population, as well as to bring dolphin numbers back to a proper level.

    not theses

what do they teach in school these days

  2. thats terrible. they are so trusting of humans that id be like hunting 450 dogs. for real people. they literally come up to the boats and swim by them. why mess with something that is actually pleasant between humans and an animal.

  3. There are Dolphin fish that people eat also called Mahi-Mahi and are not the same as Dolphins like Flipper which are mammals and not fish.  So they wouldn't be catching Flipper, just some fish.

  4. SOUNDS LIKE STUPIDITY, LIKE THE GOVERNOR SIGNING A BILL TO HAVE OIL COMPANIES PUT 10% OF ETHINOL IN YOUR GAS BY 2010. IF THEY DONT DOES THAT MEAN YOUR TOURIST STATE WONT ALLOW CARS AND TRUCKS INTO FLORIDA OR IS THE GOVERNOR GOING TO PAY YOU THE DIFFERENCE. EXHAUST, GASES DECIPATE AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS AND ARE'NT THE CAUSE TO GLOBAL WARMING, SO WHATS THE POINT OF CHANGE. TO DRIVE UP THE PRICE OF GAS+.

  5. What's wrong with it?  Dolphins are powerful fighters, and would provide sportsmen with a unique opportunity.  Anyone familiar with Florida waters knows that harvesting 450 dolphins wouldn't even be noticable.

  6. Not sure what you are talking about.  First of all, dolphins as in the mammals are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act by the federal government, and the state could not issue any such permit.  It's clear that if any permit is being issued, it's for dolphin fish, the mahi-mahi.  That being said, mahi are already a popular hook and line recreational fishery and they are being caught all the time.  What you may be referring to is the state authorizing a commercial rod and reel fishery for dolphin fish to expand the commercial aspect of that fishery.  There is already a surface longline fishery for that species.
