Question:

What do you think of Food Stamps for restaurants?

In PR we don't exactly call them food stamps. But now someone came up with the idea of letting them use the card to eat at restaurants apart from using them to shop for groceries. What do you think of this?

I am, of course, against this.

  1. h**l no but, if  you can buy a hooker with food stamps and you can also buy guns with food stamps, why shouldn't you be able to go out and have a nice dinner on us tax payers. Only in America.

  2. In Ohio they can be used in certain locations, Subway is one of them. But only certain people can do it, namely people that are disabled or in some way unable to cook.

In those cases I am not against it.

I was only present once when someone paid with their food stamp card (looks exactly like a credit card) and he was probably about 60-70 years old and had very bad arthritis (crooked hands and all) apparently he was a regular customer.

  3. Why should I work my keester off and have restaurant food as an occasional reward when there are people who obviously abuse the system who can get it off my paycheck?

I have a problem with the sytem in general.

  4. No...

  5. food stamps are for buying what is needed to survive. eating out is costly, and for what you spend on meals at a restaurant for one family you could buy 18-30 days of food at a low cost grocery store. why do people think that being poor and in need of help means that they are entitled to live in a 5 star resort and have a personal chef.

i make just enough to not be eligible for assistance, i dont get to go out to eat but maybe once every 5-6 months. how can someone on food stamps get luxury items.

at this rate welfare will get you a 500 room house, 5 bentleys and other assorted sports cars, and to top it off they get to spend 8 months in paris on a shopping spree.

i know when i finish my phd i will be able to make more money (and pay back loans lmao) and then i can eat out and go on vacations more often.

  6. Should be limited to groceries. The people I see using them are also typically buying (with money of course) vodka, cigarettes and lottery tickets. Frankly, I'd rather the food stamps went to people who can't afford vodka, cigarettes and lottery tickets.

  7. I see people use them at the pizza place where I live, thats BS. If you need money for groceries then use it for that, not buying pizza. I am way against tusing them at restaurants

  8. Of course not...this is in no way Cost Effective.

  9. Worst idea in the world.  So is the fact that food stamps can be used to buy things like coca cola.  Reward people enough for being non-productive, and why would they ever want to change?

  10. weather you like it or not--it is essential

  11. I would love some free food, but since I make too much money and I am the one paying for these stamps I think they should only be allowed to use them in grocery stores on off brand items that provide only what is basic to life. Just yesterday a woman in front of me was using food stamps at the Wal-Mart and she was very healthy!! like three times my size, and was getting better stuff than me! talk about messed up.

  12. what is PR?

  13. I am against this, its meant to provide the basics of human life, not to support privleges (especially when those who do work themselves are having to choose between eating out and fuel for a car.)

  14. Ridicules the idea is to put some food on the table temporarily to keep people from starving. It isn't supposed to be so nice that people don't ever want to get off food stamps.

They should be able to buy staples only. I still get pissed when they buy a big steak with my tax dollars when I can't afford it myself.

  15. No way.  Food subsidies are not intended for cooked food.  No way that will pass in the PR senate.
