I've been watching this show and thought it was awesome. Do you think the soldiers are portrayed accurately?

  1. I think the soldiers are portrayed as punks and smartasses. To put it bluntly. I was really dissapointed by it.

  2. I've read that it was nothing like the actual marine corps.

  3. Well, from actually reading the book a few years ago, then talking folks who in the inital push (Army and Marines) and from actually being on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan as an infantryman in combat and knowing all the good, the bad and the ugly and also knowing that it is HBO and they are trying to put 7 months into 7 episodes....well, I like it better than all the limp, wristed, anti-adminstration movies that have been out in the last three years or other docs and especially that FX garbage "Over There" .

The weapons and firefight sounds they did get right and the jargon and grab azz was dead on. Every true grunt knows we talk about S**t like this and deal with issues like this. Just no body wants to see their image tarnished, just what you see in the commercials. I remember when "A few Good Men" came out and know said nothing or even better "BlackHawk Down." Now there I know alot of people involved. I served with several of the Rangers having been a Ranger at the time and training 3rd Batt before they deployed at FT. Bliss (I worked at the Desert Phase of Ranger School). We also buried SGT. Ruiz who died at the end of movie but was the same person in real-life. I also knew SSG Struecker who later was my Bn Chaplain in the 82nd in Afghanistan and at least 30 others who fought in that battle. NOt one had beef with the movie or book.

The ugly truths of in-fighting between glory seekers and higher ups no one wants to see, but h**l, we had them in the 82nd,1stAD,101st, in LRS and even with the two different Marine RCTs I served with for 7 months in Iraq in 2006-2007. Also, HBO, does have some things on their main 'Generation Kill' home page supporting us troops, which is cool.

I take with a grain of salt and remember it is t.v., but none of the real life characters are protesting so that should tell you something...

  4. I didn't know there was a show for it now... I read the book, though, and it's pretty cool! It's a great book. The marines in the book are portrayed accurately for the most part. thc451, you need mental help. Or at least one thumbs up, which I won't give you.

  5. Unusually accurate presentation with obvious major input from actual participants and witnesses in the Iraq theater. The equipment, uniforms and vehicles, routines and team fighting in the cities of Iraq along with the blood and death give a searing human sense of the drama to the war that is both memorable and painful to watch.

I for one feel after watching one episode that this staged presentation of Iraq combat, along with combat Veterans input and reaction, has a real purpose aside from sharing the adrenaline serge of reoccurring startle effect represented in this series. Thanks to all for presenting this series.

  6. Perhaps you would find it less "awesome" if you suddenly ceased to exist.

  7. Anartican furry is wrong about what he is is saying. he will even tell you that he is wrong later on now about that ''generation kill'' that is an infidel show. The hamas and the great lands of Palestine are much better than the U.S. Marines

  8. i heard that its very diffrent from reality.

  9. Like Jarhead, Im sure it entertains some and upsets others----oh well

  10. Read here on what the Sgt Major of the USMC thought about that show..This should tell you something..I have not and nevver will waste my time watching c**p like that..

    From interview

""Yeah, I did — I didn’t like it. I watched 15 minutes of it, and it did not portray the Marine Corps. I thought it was a slap in the face to the Marine Corps, especially when you’ve got Marines that know that doesn’t portray a unit in the Marine Corps, from the leadership down
