are they actually an accurate way of finding out how smart people are? are they fair?

the particular problem solving required to answer the question are completely different from any problem solving we would encounter day to day, or in school very often. is it fair and accurate to expose someone to a whole new way of problem solving under a time limit and expect them to score well?

also, aren't there many different ways people learn and process information. couldn't there be people who are extremely intelligent but process the problem solving separate than the "traditional" way and score poorly?

  1. I think that they are just ridicules.. I absolutly agree with giopsy girl.. it only test a certain intelligence.. and unfortunatly many people do not understand that.. intelligence is not only being book smart.. They are many many intelligence.. for example  musician have an amazing ear.. and they are capable of doing things that a lot of people can!! for example mozart... even people like the beatles.. do you think anybody can creat musci like they do? no.. Painters are amazing witht he hands..and have an artistic eye.. Degas, monet.. even graophic designers the way they put colors together and creat amazing art.. people in sales.. you think its easy to sale!! h**l no.. they have a way to communicate with people.... they are also peopl ethat have emotional intelligence.. they are those kind of people that have a way with people. I mean they are liked by everyone and its just amazing how they manage their emotional life and relationships....  these are all differen inteligence.. many of the people who excelle in this kind of intelligence.. are probably horrible at math!! and could probably do TERRIBLE in this kind of IQ tests...   AND yes you are absolutly right.. we all learn in a different way. some faster others slower.. and with different techinques..

  2. IQ tests are just a test.  There are many debates out there about how factual the information in an iq test are.  I know many people who have scored high on IQ tests (myself included), but that has not really factored into real life success.

there are many different types of intelligence and being able to solve a complex problem might be great in some fields, but hard work and determination is actually a greater asset.

I've found that for some people, (including myself) who are lucky enough to have things come easily to them, there is a tendency to get bored easily when not challenged enough.  This can be very detrimental in the long term.

Sure, I did great in college and I can pass tests without the need for intense study, but again it hasn't translated out to real world success as of yet.

If it takes you longer to do something, you have to work that much harder for it, but this to me is not a bad thing.

IQ test at best can measure processing speed.  How that translates to the real world though is open to quite a bit of debate.

Also, if you take an IQ test and you are in a bad mood you can actually score lower.  Studies have also shown that people score better on IQ tests with more education which proves the test is flawed, since it is supposed to measure inherent ability.

Don't let that stop you from doing what you need to do in life.  I know a woman with a PHD who had to struggle her way through school, but because she was determined to do it, she was able to because she wanted it that badly.

  3. IQ tests can accurately predict how well you can do in a traditional school setting.  They have no correlation with how you will do in life.  They only test for a specific type of intellegence.

  4. the ones that are online are fake. to take a real IQ test u have to pay around $500- $ 600. and take it at a special psychiatry place. After they have ur scores they will analize ur scores with u.
