Sheedy, as reported today, wants to coach the proposed new Gold Coast team!!

He was found to be past his use by date at the end of last season due to poor performances & not being able to keep up with the modern game. He was sacked & reason given was that he was not communicating with the players & had fallen behind others in keeping up with modern coaching trends - just the same as Denis Pagan.

Bearing in mind that the team probably wont be formed until 2011, at the earliest, he will be further behind the eight ball. Many will have warm & fuzzy things to say but it would be an instant recipe for disaster to appoint him as coach. I'm sure sensible minds will prevail & if he is offered a position it should only be as a recruiting scout or similar.

  1. I think Sheedy will be too old to be coaching the new Gold Coast team in 2011.  They need young blood and I'm sure there will be plenty of potential coachs by then.

  2. Sheedy is not physically  fit enough to coach fit young players.

He has had his turn, and needs to let go of coaching and concentrate on some office jobs at AFL house.

  3. The AFL are so desperate to get a team into the Gold Coast but will they get in before the A-League?

    Remeber those who snooze lose!

  4. It would be a great way for the new team to get the exposure and experience from a great coach. A 2 year deal would be perfect for him set up the club and then let the assistant coach step up.

Would be a good move .......... i'm going to have watch for more news on that.

  5. Far from not keeping up with the modern game Sheeds helped shape it. He would handle the job without a problem but I think he would be better used in a promotional role by the AFL as he has been one of the best and most innovative promoters the game has had. With Sheeds promoting the game the Gold Coast team might actually get some support.

  6. He wont get it. If Michael Voss is still available they will offer it to him.
