  1. The problems sounds taxing.

  2. when they relaunch they should be called the tax party that is all they know tax the public and milk the expenses robbing scumbags

  3. If thatcher hadn't sold off all the utility companies we wouldn't be in this state of rising prices every other day , it's just greed with them all, Brown does right to put a windfall tax on them

  4. I have no objection to paying taxes. I object to how they are used. Taxes, particularly indirect taxes are constantly rising while the services they are supposed to support are constantly decreasing. Time for change- and I don’t mean vote Cameron. Whatever he says, there will be little change, for to introduce real change would upset the status quo and the parliamentary pigs would be out of a job.

As to the proposed winfdfall tax, who would benefit and who would lose? The energy companies would be using our money to pay the windfall tax, so it is a further burden to us because all the energy companies will do is increase prices. We will not benefit from the extra tax the energy companies’ pay. It will fund the 2012 Olympics, Europe or otherwise be given away to some lost cause or other.

A windfall tax is not the answer to energy companies’ obscene profits while pensioners are cold. At the least legislation capping the cost of fuel and reducing it where necessary should be introduced. Limits on the million pound plus bonuses the bosses award themselves as well. It’s us who pays them. We should have some say on their payment.

Much of the price increases could be absorbed. The problem is the constant take-overs of energy companies means prices get increased to try to reap back the initial outlay.

I am of the opinion we should re-nationalise the energy companies without compensation since they have made their money back many times over and use the profits to hold prices down.

  5. It's new labour - if it moves (or not) tax it.

On this occasion I think they are right but what will they do with the money? Waste it, that's what.

Quality of life has got worse in the last decade, all the hard workers are taxed to the hilt already, the wealthy have got wealthier & the poor, poorer.

new labour has sold out the electorate.

  6. New Labour can come up with all sorts of new tax schemes! But!They are finished as a political party for the next 10years!What they ought to be doing now is!Electing a new leader!Someone who is honest and sincere and above all!Someone who appeals to the electorate!

  7. The "market" does not appear to be driving prices down, so why not?
