McCain says: "Senator Obama, this is truly a good day for America. Too often the achievements of our opponents go unnoticed. So I wanted to stop and say, congratulations. How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow, we'll be back at it. But tonight Senator, job well done."

  1. It shows the difference between McCain and his low life opponent

  2. It's customary, but it was classy,

It was like when Winston Churchill said to Japanese ambassador, "I regretfully inform you a state of war now exists with your country." he told reporters if you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite.

  3. It's good politics, but it is also gracious and refreshing.  Good for McCain.  I hope my candidate (Obama) does something equally gracious.

  4. He showed in a gentleman way his recognition to his rival as some of the generals used to do it in the past, they stop the fight to recognize the courage of their enemies even though some lost their battles or the war against the same enemies, they just couldn't help it.

  5. I can't imagine Obama saying anything similar about McCain, can you?

  6. Shows the class of the man and why the Democrats respect him.

  7. i think mccain is a backstabbing two-faced coward

  8. It's called being magnanimous, something Democrats rarely find the capacity to do.

  9. I think it's cool, history has been made a man who is half white and half black has been nominated to possibly be our next president.  How cool is that.  If he is elected we will have the best of both worlds I hope.

  10. Very statesman like.

  11. I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't verbatim.

  12. McCain is an officer and a gentleman.

It was a gracious thing to do.

  13. Never trust Rove/McCain/republicans...

  14. What's crazy is that I actually believe McCain feels that way.  And why wouldn't he?  At this point Obama has gained the nomination, which is a big achievement.  But I'm sure McCain feels he'll whup him in the general election.  He can easily and honestly congratulate Obama because it hasn't cost him anything.  Compare that with the following speech, which I'm sure almost made Bush's head explode:

“And tonight I have the high privilege and distinct honor of my own as the first president to begin the State of the Union Message with these words: ‘Madam Speaker,’ ” he said in a nod to Representative Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to be speaker of the House.

  15. Gracious

  16. It shows that McCain has wisdom.
