What do you think of Shnauzers or West Highland Whities as pets for single woman in house with yard?

Westies are great - If you'll be able to give the pup A LOT of your time.  You said you're single - just make sure he won't be left alone too often.  My Westie tears the house up when I leave him home alone for too long (he's 5 months old), but he's a great companion dog!

You really need to research the breeds to see if they fit your personality, lifestyle, etc.  Some breeds require more exercise, some more grooming, some more training....

Good questions would be "How much exercise can you give the dog each day?" "Can you deal with a dog that sheds?  If not, are you willing to pay to have it groomed regularly?" "How much time can you devote to training this dog?" "Do you have experience with large breeds? small breeds?"

if i were u i would go to an animal shelter and find a dog that fits u!! there r a lot of dogs at the shelter that need a home... u never know the shelter might just have the type of dog ur looking 4! please just think about going to the amimal shelter... u never know u just might find a prefect match 4 u at the shelter!! please do whats right... go to an amimal shelter... good luck!!

Both are very cute and friendly! Schnauzers could have many health problems though. My uncle and aunt spent a lot of money trying to keep theirs healthy, but that could have been a personal thing with the dog.

Personally, I love Westies! They are pretty low maintenance and very nice!

Great if you socialize them good, you don't want an aggressive little ankle biter. Westies are very fun-loving happy dogs normally.

Either would be a great choice, just make sure you are ready for the commitment. Even if you have a yard, your dogs need to be walked everyday. They should also have basic obedience training. Also, make sure you are willing to keep up on their grooming.

Either would be a great pet. But do know that Westies like to be the only dog. They are notoriously known for not getting along with other dogs in the same house with them. But, I think you have narrowed it down to two nice choices.
