  1. they are over worked and underpaid

and no i wouldn't trust them

  2. Social Workers are not counselors. If you need services that are availiable from the county where you live, and for which you qualify, then you will be assigned a 'case worker. I thought I wanted to be a Social Worker, but I now have little faith in their ability to help the underpriviliged to succeed. It seems that they are harsh to judge and want people to change on their own instead of helping them learn ways to succeed. I have a M.A.

  3. I am a social worker, and yes, I would recommend seeing one.  Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) are able to privately counsel and bill for their services.  Social workers have a Code of Ethics, which means that you can trust them as they follow confidentiality (what you say stays with them unless threats of harming yourself seriously or someone else are made).  That doesn't mean that you cannot trust a Clinical Counselor, Psychologist, or Psychiatrist either.  They all have different services to offer, but all of them are there to help you.  Unfortunately, there are individuals in each field that have certainly given the professions a bad name.  Test out the waters, there is nothing that says that you have to continue seeking services with the social worker if you do not like them, but remember, that is one individual, not an entire profession.  Good luck and I hope that you find the assistance and rapport that you are looking for.

  4. i see one.
