It's a new series to air on Sci Fi instead of Stargate: Atlantis.

  1. Well, I have only recently heard about Atlantis being cancelled, so I have a feeling that Universe will be out in the near future. I have heard a few rumours about it and I have also got a few theories of my own. In Continuum, there was an off comment about a Moon Base, so it could be an extension of that. I have also heard that it may be quite a bit like Lost in Space (although I have never seen it before) and will feature an all new cast with some big name actor as the lead, although I know nothing about that yet. Another thing I have heard is that the characters in previous series' will most likely make cameo appearences every so often.

At the moment I am willing to give it a chance, but perhaps a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off may be a little bit too much.

  2. I just heard about that today. I'm not really surprised, it seemed like Atlantis lost some momentum in season four and the writers seemed to be stumbling a bit during that season. Also, a few of the franchise producers (and the SciFi channel) seemed to want to drop Atlantis and go ahead with Universe instead (they apparently didn't want to write and produce two series at the same time, like they did for SG-1 (seasons eight, nine and ten) and Atlantis (seasons one, two and three), even though I thought the episodes written during that time period were better than when they only had to write and produce Atlantis). It's sort of disappointing, since I had finally gotten used to the numerous cast changes on Atlantis and the writers finally seemed to be regaining their footing on how to progress with the show.

I don't think I will be watching Stargate Universe when it comes out. I might, but with the numerous cast changes and drop in quality on Atlantis, the insulting comments from the channel's president (Howe), and the basic plot of Stargate Universe, which appears incredibly cliched, it doesn't seem likely.
