  1. If you've heard about Argentina, Uruguay is very similar. It's climate is wetter and hotter, though, and it also doesn't has all the different climates and geographic zones as Argentina does. However, it has (I think) warmer beaches since it's proximity to Brazil.

  2. its its beautiful. it has a lot of history. the building a grate and the nightlife even better. the people are warm and inviting. Salto was grate to visit  it had many thermal spring, although it does get quite hot in summer there. no matter were you go you will always find lakes and beaches which mostly have clean water in them. Some parts of the central looks dangerous but other parts are absolutely wonderful its like visiting Europe with all the memorials, statues and olds looking  buildings

  3. Uruguay's great.

You can enjoy beautiful beaches (some of them are still unspoiled!), colonial cities, great steaks (they may not be as famous as Brazilian or Argentinian but they are just as good), hip nightlife, nice people, sports, etc.

    There's always something for everybody.

You can even try the "gaucho" lifestyle. Gauchos are the southamerican cowboys. The most famous ones are from Argentina. But you can find them here as well.

Punta del Este is the place to go. It is becoming a world-reknown beach resort. There are casinos, celebrities, parties...You can either go wild or just settle for a more relaxed holiday. Montevideo, the capital, is quite interesting as well. Whatever rocks your boat, you'll find it here, I'm sure.

  4. it is a more tranquill country than Argentina, also it has a stabler economy, the defining between classes is more pronounced, it is on the whole very clean, appears that the educational levels are high for most of the citizens, it is relatively safe & comfortable, but most of all it is where Argentians often go to vacation, the beaches are clean, the country side, tho not as diverse as Brazil or Argentina  is pleasant,it is expensive for the average person to visit.

  5. On the travel channel (in the usa) there is a program called Passport to Latin America. It is shown on wednesdays at 8pm I think, and they just aired an episode on Montevideo and Punta del Este. You should check their program listing to see if you can try to catch it.

  6. Been to Uruguay 3 times and I loved it. At first I was not thrilled to go there, didnt know much about it and compared to Argentina it's a tiny country. I went to Colonia de Sacramento (beautiful cobbledstone town, the last Portuguese settlement on South America), Punta del Este of course (very noisy at night, a bit overrated for my taste) and Montevideo. Have been there for pleasure and for work too. Personally I think Uruguay excels Argentina in many aspects: the people are more friendly, the beef is superb (better than BA!), they have lovely landscape, wine is excellent and underestimated in my opinion, excellent cheese, dairy producst, etc. I once herad from an argentinian that Uruguay was considered by some of them as another argentinian province. That's so far from the truth! Uruguay is a great country, very relaxed and easy to live in. I would definetly go back again.
