What do you think of Wallace as NSW half?

I thought it in the first few rounds. But then started to think otherwise the last few weeks. I thought Finch or Gidley were certain to be named, and even with Gidley's injury i wouldnt have picked Wallace, cause it seems like everyone had forgotten him.I am a fan of his, and i think he will suit origin. Feel sorry for Finch, i think he would be a bit gutted.. he should have a chat to Prince.

Some selections im disappointed in are Bird at 5/8th, This pretty much just stems from my dislike of him lately, but that will change once he dons the sky blue. I would have rathered see a real 5/8th there. Anasta would of been my pick.

I was shocked to hear kite had been omitted, when has an Australian Player been left out of a Origin team 1 week after playing for their country. He can meet up with Prince and Finch.

Mason on the bench? im guessing this has to be an impact play? I would of played him starting before Cross or White.

What do you think?

  1. I'm pleased and surprised at the same time, despite the injury to Kurt Gidley.  On form, he deserves to be there.  I thought maybe another season under his belt.

Penrith are so foolish for not offering him a new deal.  That's Brisbane's gain.  Orford is very unlucky.

It's all up to Peter Wallace now.

  2. jamesagu you are a goose.for saying that bird on the 5/8 was a stupid selection.he was tha man of the match on the game 3 last year and the blues won it.it show that you have never watched the last game.he was also the man of the match last year test against the kiwis.bird is a proven player for the rep games.he will be there in any rep games for the blues and the roos.go back in time and refresh your mind.anasta can win you a game then a shocker for the rest of the series.as for wallace advantages of being a halfback.he surely know the play of some of his team mates from the broncos that will be lining up for the qld.finch is the same as anasta can win you the first game then a shocker when they are expected to fired up for the rest.brent kite did not fired up against the kiwis this recent test.prince will never be pick as long jt is available.he did played for the maroons on the losing series against the blues before.good player for the club but not good enough for the rep games.hunt just like lockyer starting as fullback and made the 5/8 position for the  broncos, qld and the roos can be another player to made a switch from fullback to 5/8 a sucess.jamesagu should take a time machine to state of origin 2007 to see greg bird made a big impact against the maroons.as mason he is such a good player with a big ego.

  3. I think he is to inexperienced to play Origin football. Give him a couple more rep games and I think he will be better. Yes, I prefer Greg Bird as a lock. Put Anasta in 5/8 and Finch as Halfback. Better if they have 3 kickers, not put pressure on 1 or 2 sole kickers.

But still with all of this... QLD should still win 2-1 or 3-0 comfortably.

  4. Backs look about right. Would maybe like to see someone Like Chris Lawrence from the Tigers get a chance if results or injuries go against them.

The halfback spot was really a lottery. I don't think it will really matter who they put in as the contenders were all roughly of the same quality and there was no real standout. Each player has there positives and each as there negatives. It would be good to have a standout choice like QLD do and if there No.1 isn't fit they have a pretty decent No. 2 & 3 to call on.

I don't agree with Ben Cross being selected, he is barely a 40 minute player. I would have stayed with Kite at least for game 1 anyway.

I also would have like Nathan Hindmarsh in the squad somewhere, he is suited to the toughness and grinding of State of origin and offers invaluable experience and mental toughness when the game is on the line, plus he never stops. He plays the same in minute 1 and minute 79.

  5. I think its a big gamble, and i think its suicide against such a strong Maroons backline. I agree with bird being a bad selection, he doesnt play like a 5/8, and to leave out guys like carney, anasta and finch (who to be fair tho hasnt been playing his best) is crazy. Then it goes further to leaving out hindmarsh and kite. Im a QLD man, and i think in a year NSW realy needed stars and firepower, theyv screwed up bigtime. (no gidley either, owch)

  6. jamesagu is just a goose full stop. he's a 1 eyed rooster fan and im sure he would just love it if the whole NSW team was made up of players solely from the roosters!

i think the half back spot was a lottery..... there was no stand out all are just average, and if wallace doesnt perform they will prob just move on to the next average half back, i think they will miss hindmarsh's workload who else is going to make 50-60 tackles per game?

  7. WALLACE BIG MISTAKE, THE SELECTORS ARE IDIOTS FOR THAT, BUT PUTTING FITSY BACK IN THE TEAM WAS  A SMART DECISION.BIRD WAS ALSO A STUPID CHOICE.

  8. The first reply mentioned a Tigers player. i would actually have liked to have seen a different one - Heighington selected. He has been in good form for a few years - and exceptional this year - for a forward to pick up as many man-of-the-match awards is great. Also was probably top two on the park in City V Country - so why bother having it if not using it as a form guide. Scrap it.

  9. Wallace has been about the best half all year. Precision, space finding clearing kicks, line breaks a plenty, and hes a great tackler with more than decent fitness. Of course Gidley would have been selected had he not broken his face but thats footy.

Finch is c**p. Anasta is a overated. Orford is a chokaholic.

Bird is a killer at lock or 5/8. He will be smashing hunt & thurston all nite.

  10. I don't mind it, I'm sure Gidley would have been selected but i'm glad they picked Wallace over Finch. Mullen left his run to late, and Matt Orford must consider himself unlucky.

  11. i have no idea what they were thinking choosing wallace.. he has no chance.. very dissapointed to see that & gidley not in the team..
