I personally think its a toss-up not, before last night, I thought Cotto would destroy Williams.

  1. Williams is long and should be in the upper weight classes fighting Pavlik, Winky, Super WW or MW. With that said, I think Cotto would be able to get in Williams kitchen and punish him for 8 rounds before he finally succumbs to the TKO. Cotto by TKO.

  2. Would be a decent match up but at 147 Cotto is much stronger than he was at 140 and although not a one punch ko figher he punishes opponents, particularly the body.  His resume' is better as well with wins over Mosley, Judah, Urkal, Malignaggi with Quintana their only identical opponent (I think).  Williams has wins over Mitchell and Margo but I can't see him standing up to Cotto's pressure.  Cotto would take it via late stoppage or a punishing UD.

  3. I still think Paul Williams is overrated. Cotto would beat that body inside badly. Cotto wide UD possible late stoppage.

  4. I would love to see that matchup now that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has retired.  Paul Williams has already beaten Antonio Margarito, but I would welcome a rematch if Margarito manages to beat Cotto.  If Cotto wins, then the Williams match should be made next and there is no excuse why it shouldn't be.  When Williams is focused, its really hard for me to see anyone beating him at 147 pounds- he has so many weapons to his advantage- high workrate of over 100 punches a round, decent power, good handspeed, good chin, a southpaw that has a good right, 82 inch reach, and extremely tall.  He proved in the Margarito fight as well as the Quintana rematch that he is a force to be reckoned with- not even Cotto stopped Quintana in 1 round; and if you saw that fight, it was very evenly matched up until the fifth round when Cotto killed his body.  Williams lost to Quintana in the first fight because he was not focused, but he showed in the rematch what he can do when he IS focused- he can beat or at least give serious trouble to ANYBODY.  You are right- if he fights Cotto it would be a genuine tossup.  I am slightly leaning towards Williams due to his high workrate and long reach, but Cotto could certainly win with his excellent body attack.  Williams proved his chin against Margarito, but his body has yet to be really tested.  I would predict Williams by a fairly close unanimous decision if and when they ever fight, but it could certainly go either way
