Question:

What do you think of a curfew?

In Cornwall (UK), the police force have sent letters to parents in a town, in which they ask that parents have their 16 year olds indoors by 9pm, and under 10's by 8pm. This is to try and curb rising street crime by those age groups.

Do you think this is a good or bad idea? Would it work in other places in the UK? Can you suggest an alternative?

  1. i don't think it will work to be honest, they have had to much freedom, the ones its designed to try and curb the damage being caused, but like said its the innocent ones who have to suffer, all get tarred with the same brush, but when they roam within the packs, its hard to distinguish who is who, especially when they all look the same,so i think they are using tactics by rounding them all up,but within an area, people know who is who,and who are the ones to blame, the minority always spoil it for the majority, its in the city's where i think it would be more usefull, but i don't know the problems in Cornwall, its like that nation wide, even in the villages,if they felt valued, and had things to do,because a lot of the young say they suffer with boredom, and no body listens to them, its still no excuse to inprison them, what next, rubber bullets,peAce.

  2. It seems like a fair enough arguement as there is so much street crime now. But then again it could be bad as the children who dont do anything wrong are getting punished because of others. Maybe people who have caused trouble in the past should have gotten letters and the ones who haven't shouldnt have.

  3. It doesn't do anything about the pensioners running around and causing havoc. *touch of sarcasm*

  4. Bad.

I totally agree that many teens seem out of control, and understand that people want to see some action taken, but this is a blatant infringement of civil liberty, and if I were a parent I would ignore it.

  5. A brilliant idea if it keeps the scum off our streets - then we can feel safe again!

  6. Yes it's a good idea. It's about time that parents took responsibility for their feral offspring.

  7. Do I think its agood idea? Yes, but then again shouldn't the parents of those kids be forcing the little b******s to come home at a reasonable time?

  8. It's Possible that it will work. It all depends on Parent Involvement. Actually, if the Parents were really being parents. You wouldn't need the Curfew.

  9. Yes. I dont want my son or brother hurt in these horrible bouts of crime, but what about the 17-25 year olds who are still stabbing and shooting people? What happens to them?

  10. is a good idea... before i use to think stuff like this was stupid and we should stay out as long as the parents let us...untill my brother got locked up i cried soo bad and so did my mom for letting him do what he want and be out in the streets at night...trust me you might think is real stupid and im just hatin but is gone hurt you alot ...but then again i still know young people that have to go to school and at night make a living and grind out here because they parents cant or they dont have parents..i know alot of them

  11. well i wouldnt have stayed in for a curfew. and its quite early too isnt it? i mean 9 pm? why cant they just be better at doing their jobs? i take it 16 year olds are allowed to be out if they're accompanied by someone older?
