Question:

What do you think of a domestic partnership where neither person is g*y?

In some states it is legal to obtain a "domestic partnership" in which two g*y men or women pledge themselves to each other, become legally bound, and share the same legal benefits as heterosexual married couples. What would you think of two straight men or women (best friends, for example) getting a domestic partnership? What would you think of a straight man and woman getting one? Would you feel differently if the man and woman were intimately involved or just friends?

I myself support formally recognized g*y marriage, as well as domestic partnerships, I'm just curious to see what other opinions are out there.

  1. Fraudulent.

  2. That's fine. Even Adam and Eve never got married. There was no ceremony that they were in, she was created to be his partner, and then she was with him. No marriage, no committment cermony. They were just domestic partners.

  3. i support :)

  4. na, don't work that way. It has to be a commitment to each other.

  5. I do't support any g*y thing or partnership. marriage is a union between one MAN and one WOMAN.

  6. The vast majority of long time marriages (or partnerships) have the s*x peter out over time.  I know very few married couples together more than 20 years that have s*x more than very occasionally  if that -- but they are still committed and still in love.  20 year olds might find that unimaginable - straight or g*y, but 40 year olds in general will not find it odd.  There are many reasons for that (declining sexual desire on the part of males with advancing age,  the fact that historically and evolutionarily we are not intended to be monogamous, etc.) - but it is a reality.  It does not, however, devalue the commitment of the relationships in question -- therefore as far as I'm concerned, if two people are truly committed and want to have a domestic partnership -- I don't care whether they have s*x or not.

  7. I imagine one can come up with all kinds of 'arrangements', but the fact remains...until basic 'marriage' is offered to everyone 'equally' there is NO equality in America...and THAT is a BIG PART of what America is all about...  BUT, as America watches it's "FREEDOMS" slip down the drain under the pretext of 'terror'...is EQUALITY much farther behind...  Those are just a couple of questions Americans will decide in the near future.

  8. In accordance with the California Domestic Partner Rights and Responsibilities Act of 2003, to be eligible for a domestic partnership both persons must be of the same s*x OR for persons of the opposite s*x one or both must be over the age of 62.

So in your scenario of a straight man and woman getting a domestic partnership, if one or both are over age 62 and live in California...I have no problem with it.

It's not always about same-s*x relationships.

  9. I could care less whether they have s*x or not. In fact, I think the best relationships are those which are not sexual/romantic. I heard it is better for raising children too.

  10. I would rather a domestic partnership than a marriage... but I'd rather no legal ties at all, just a lifelong monogamous relationship, unless my partner and I decided to have kids.

  11. Sure!

What if they are two best friends, who live together, share all their belongs, have even possibly raised kids together due to a previous divorce or something and want to be legally recognised so that if one dies the others money and belongings are transferred straight to him/her rather then the complexity of a will?

Anyway, why should we deny "them" when "they" have denied us?

If a straight couple or something wants what we have, well that's just like a lot of GLBT people wanting marriage rights isn't it?

(Sorry if it seems like I am stereotyping, ease of reference)
