  1. I don't think it's sexual unless the dancer makes it that way.I love it but I hate to see a woman bellydancing while looking like a .......... It's enjoyable and has it's good values especially for it's health benefits(dont let it fool ya it's "power" is normal calorie burning but what the ladies love it for is it's power to give you a nice looking tummy don't get me wrong the stomache doesn't flatten or look better for all women/men alike).Hey not all bellydancers are the same so i respect certain dancers based on my judgement but all in all to me it's a dance that can be altered away from it values; sending a sexual/erotic message to onlookers (especially when the dancer has attention created at her chest and those high split skirts) OR it can retain it's pure nature of an expressive dance in which to offer entertainment

  2. I love belly dance and the dancers.

No, I don't think belly dance is really about s*x and seduction. Belly dancers don't strip, they don't do lap dances, nor do they use a pole in their performance. Hollywood started perpetuating their version of a sexualized dance long ago... and still does so. Thus many people are now confused about belly dance. Raqs sharqi, Oriental dance, Belly Dance is performed by people of all ages and both sexes during festive occasions. YES, men do "belly dance". They do similar movements but they are executed differently. Alot of what is seen performed in the US is American Tribal Style and cabaret style. Much dancing in the Middle East is in the social context, not by the glamorous professional nightclub dancers. Since men and women often are segregated in some areas of the Middle East, then women mostly dance when they are with other women. Not really a dance to seduce men, if there aren't any men around to seduce. It's a celebration of womanhood.

  4. It can be. It's also really heathy and good for your abs. it can be very beautiful if the dancer is experienced.

  5. Sexual, Absolutley! It is prettty hot when it is done right. Otherwise it looks like someone with belemia.

If you are going to get into it I suggest you get some of the workout videos that I have seen in  the movie store that have it in there. My wife watched them and she now knows how to do it, QUITE WELL...now

Good Luck, its something I enjoy but this all is an opionion

  6. No belly dancing was never about being sexual, it was not to attract men or anything else in most cases it was entertainment for women by women men were not present when the dances were performed, so no. There are no lap dances or strip teases or taking off clothers it may be sensual sometimes but a good bellydancer will have you so captivated you will not be thinking about sensuality or sexuality but how on the world do they get their bodies to do that? :)

  7. Certainly it can be. And from a historical perspective the intention was occasionally to attract the attention of a man. However, as with most things different cultures and styles can add a different meaning to a dance. A belly dance with a sword on your head might look alot less sexual and be more of a feat of acrobatics. A tribal dance might be a elegant coreographed work of art. The intention and personality of the dancer can make all the differance in the world. Even costuming can mean very little if the dance if performed in a non-sexual way.

The viewer also adds his perspective to the performance. If all you see is a woman with curvy hips you might think of it as sexual. But if you watch the flow of a dance from one person to the next, or look for the meaning in the dancers movements you may find alot more.

Hula dancing is often percieved this same way. Many of those dances reenact an event or a myth, but to a casual observer you see a girl in a bikini waving her stuff around!

I've seen men and women of EVERY age enjoy belly dance. Kids really enjoy it, and if you don't act like its something really sexual they they don't think of it that way. To them its fun and jingles! Think like a kid, with an open mind and a joyous heart..
