What do you think of bio diesel?

The above answer is partially correct.  Biodiesel may be produced from a variety of feedstocks.  Not just food crops like soybeans, but also from other plants such as Palm, Coconut, and the Jatropha plant.  What is nice about the Jatropha plant is that it is a weed that can grow in marginal soils.  So, using Jatropha does not divert food crops to fuel production and it does not need to be grown on land that would otherwise be used to grow food crops.  Jatropha can grow in sandy, rocky soils, it can even grow on piles of trash.  Its a wild growing weed in India.

Animal fat and grease from rendering plants can also be used in the production of Biodiesel.  These are byproducts of the butchering process that have little, if any, food value.

Biodiesel burns cleaner than regular petrodiesel (less soot/particulate matter).  Biodiesel may result in slightly better, slightly worse, or identical fuel economy as petrodiesel (all three cases have been reported in real world examples).

As with any other alternative fuel, it is not THE answer to our dependence on fossil fuels, but it can and should be an important part of an overall energy policy.

Biodiesel is a great alternative to regular fossil fuel sources like gasoline and petroluem because you get it from renewable resources like animal fats and vegetable oils.

Biodiesel is a good alternative.  The only problem is that it requires using agricultural land to grow fuel crops.  The more biodiesel we use, the less land there is to grow food crops, and the higher the price of food will go.  So we can't rely on them too heavily, but on a small scale, biodiesel is an environmentally friendly alternative.
