What do you think of celebrities promoting conservation all the while consuming enormous resources?

I think celebrities are a joke. They talk about saving this and that, but they come off living in huge houses and/orwearing these expensive clothes and make up that who knows how or who or in what conditions were they made. How can you talk about saving the Planet and children when you are wearing a thousand dollar earing??

It's hysterical!  Friggen Al Gore is the worst one too!  His mansion consumes some outrageous amount of electricity.  He can go live in my one bedroom apartment if he wants to conserve some power and I'll go stay at his mansion.  

I'll even turn the lights off when I leave a room.  :)

That's a good point, however they're going to consume enormous resources regardless of if they promote conservation or not, SO that seems like a little bit of a "win".

Give an example.   I think if you are going to promote conservation you should practice what you preach.  However I do not know who in particular you are talking about when you say "all the while consuming enourmous resources".

hypocritical behavior is rewarded by the idol worship of the hollywood crowd.  turn off the tv and open a book and things begin to get clearer.

i'm sure not all of them consume a lot. at the same time, it's hard not to. everything we use is the result of waste and pollution. the plastic plants to make computer cases, computer chips and boards, the plants that make the machines that cut down forests to print books. everything. one consumer that i'm sure makes a difference at least is al gore and his tour against global warming.

While you're right many do promote conservation and in term have some of the largest houses (which extreme energy bills), cars like Ferraris that have crappy miles per gallon.  However, realize that lots of celebrities are not only on the forefront of this "green revolution" but also have donated thousands and sometimes millions to the cause.  Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, and Will Ferrell are just a few to name.

Maybe some of them really care, but they do it mostly for publicity. One thing I hate more than that is when a celebrity asks you for money for a kid that needs surgery. If he cares so much about the kid why doesn't he pay for it! If he paid for the kid's operation as he should do, the only way to gain publicity would be to go on TV and say "Hey, I paid for that kid's operation."

I think celebrities should get on with their own lives and stop trying to tell the rest of us what to do.  

Then again, I feel the same way about most church leaders and  politicians.

I think they are hypocrites.  They feel that they are more important than "regular people," and that they shouldn't be expected to live the way we live.  They think we should make all the sacrifices, while they go on living their extravagant lifestyles.  I am personally sick of celebrities thinking that we care what their opinions are on politics and other issues that affect everyone.  Most of them can't stay in a marriage for more than one or two years.  Why would we think they can solve a major problem??
