My hubby loves to go to "greasy spoon" restaurants for breakfast, but I find them filthy. Do you have a problem eating at restaurants that aren't clean?

  1. Yes I have a HUGE problem eating at those kinds of restaurants! I'm glad I've found someone like me!!

  2. Do you mean dirty, or outdated? Some places look dirty just because they're rundown, but so long as the silverware, table, chairs, plates, glasses, and anything else you eat with, is clean, then the place isn't really dirty.

I still don't really like diners, though, unless I just got out of the bar and it's the only place open. I feel sorry for the people who work at them; I bet their tips are awful.

  3. Depends. If I find hair or bugs, forget it. Otherwise, I'm cool with it.

  4. If you are going to an "out-of-the-way shack" with good food, that's one thing.  But, if you are intentionally going to a "greasy spoon" which is not clean, then you should either get great medical insurance for both you and your husband; or not go at all, and get great life insurance to cover him.

  5. This is funny, I like to be clean all the time. However, I do like restaurants for example I love waffle house. They are kind of known for greasy spoon dirty atmosphere. But they are all over the place so hopefully they are passing health inspections. I wipe my utensils off and bless my food and enjoy it. You should do the same. Of course, inspect the plates the silverware and if there's a problem let them try to resolve it but if it happens again leave.

  6. I'm alright with "greasy spoon/dirty restaurants" it only matters if the food is good.

  7. as long as the chair is not gross and the food is good, who cares about everything else

  8. Nup - im good with it. The only difference between a greasy spoon 'restaurant' and the next tier up is that theyre honest about whats going on, and in most cases let you see the kitchen/grill.

Half the time, the kitchens you in from are probably on par or worse than a greasy spoon.

  9. Sometimes they have the best food, and it is quick and cheap. And I like the laid-back atmosphere sometimes. They might seem a little grungy on the surface--and if you see anything truly dirty or unsanitary, trust your gut and don't eat there--but keep in mind that every establishment that serves food in any way must pass a surprise health inspection about twice a year. And those inspectors are very strict. Even if they pass but they had some problems, they have to post the checklist from the inspector in the establishment where their customers can see it. So look around. You'll either see a paper from the health department stating the date that the inspection was passed, or a checklist where the problems the inspector saw are marked.

  10. Tasty vittles

although I will never forget when I happen to reach under a table at diner and got a handful of black grease - no lie.

  11. Are they "not clean" or just a hole in the wall? I've been to places all over the east coat and many of them would be considered greasy spoons, but they are just run down and out of date. Most of them are clean and serve good quality meals, the FDA is not a myth.
