Question:

What do you think of hotel housekeeping?

I have only worked on the job for two days and I can already tell that it is really physical. My feet hurt at the end of day as I am very tired. The pay is alright seeing how I am sixteen and still in high school. Since I am in training I am working with someone but will start working alone in three weeks. I enjoy working by myself and look forward to this.

If you have any advice, tips, or experience on housekeeping in a hotel share your thoughts :)

  1. Hunny,I will tell you from experience who worked at a housekeeper at a hospital to working at a hotel as a housekeeper. Working alone is great as you are not interacting with people. You have to accept critism especially when  you are expected to get rooms done in the time they want them done. They will inspect your work and let you know if you need to go back and re-do any spots you had missed. Hotels are very meticulous with cleaning. Although it is not the glamorous job in the world;(which any job is not). You will find out that eventually in time you will be able to pick up quickly and efficiently. Do they give tips for housekeepers where you work at? If so, you might see anywhere between $1-100 depending on the service of the room. I'm working there temporarily until October then I will be adventuring my way to college since I do not want to clean for the rest of my life.

Physically,Your muscles will be extremely sore for the 1st couple weeks as mine was.I felt like I wanted to die. Once you get home,Take your shoes off and soak your feet, relax in a bathtub or have someone rub your feet.I would recommend getting insoles for your sneakers or get good support shoes.

    Hope this helps

  2. It's a good job for a sixteen year-old.  I ran into problems when I worked as a hotel housekeeper because of my boss.  She favored her daughter over the other employees.  Also, they stole my tips one day (the only day I ever got tips - it was from a bunch of Japanese tourists).

Make sure you have good shoes - sneakers are O.K. if they provide enough support for your feet (look for the ones marked 'Cross-trainers').  When you get home, change your socks and shoes.  Soaking your feet in water with some Epsom salts dissolved in it will help too.

    Good Luck!

  3. It's an honest job for honest pay.  What else do you want?
