I have this question on a writing for a job sample, and I'm wondering what a good answer would be.

  1. inmates are the few members of society that have been unfortunate enough to have been caught and are paying for their crimes committed. generally speaking most inmates are doing time for crimes that the state has actually proven that they committed and usually have committed more crimes that haven't been proven so they are fortunate in that sense .

  2. It's weird but they also have a code of ethics, like with cho-mos (child molesters) or any kind of sexual assault.  If you beat one, it's a hate crime -- go figure..., or a snitch.  They learn how to hide their tattoo guns and such, light their cigs.  Let's hear it for higher education.

Did you know that if they don't have people on the outside to help take care of them ($$), they don't get anything "special" like you hear a lot of people say.  IF they're lucky enough to get a job, they're paid about 60 cents a day, sometimes higher depending on which state and prison you're in, and then if there's restitution, 20% of that gets taken out towards restitution.

They have educational and trade programs but often there are long waits or if you don't have enough time, you aren't allowed to sign up for those programs or the programs are full.

Also, some guards aren't so straight-up either and they get away with a lot of stuff because they know they can -- power freaks.  You read about that kind of thing -- beatings, not allowing medical treatment.  It's true.

It costs money to see a nurse, doctor, dentist and it's not like "you make an appointment."  They put a request in and, yeah, we'll see when I get a little time here...

  3. What is LE? Lifetime employment?

If you are going to be a jail guard, they probably don't want to hire any racists or people who want to beat the c**p out of people because of their race, religion or ethnicity...or people who are afraid of such people or overly judgemental or overly sympathetic...somewhere in between.

  4. I think of it this way:

people who have made a mistake and got caught,

people who are greedy and got caught

people who are born into crime and poverty (for these people i have some sympathy for)

  5. You can't generalise all inmates as the same thing. There are a lot of people in jail who have just fallen on hard times, are pychologically imbalanced or have commited non violent crimes such as fraud. Whatever you do, don't refer to them as 'scum' etc.

  6. Inmates are people who don't get any so they rape other inmates

This is your butt o This is your butt is prison O

  7. After spending six years working in a county jail I can honestly say that quite a few of them are where they will always be for the rest of their life. Sure, you get the occasional fol that catches a DUI or something like that. They come to jail, plead guilty and move on with their life. But then there are those who this is the only life they know. They commit crimes, go to prison, get released and do the same thing. These are the scum and the scrotebags of society and I have no sympathy for them. You choose to do the crime, you shouldn't be complaining about doing the time.
