Not to entertain an audience but for personal growth and artistic/creative expression in solitude or with intimate friends.

  1. That was my original reason for starting. It was just for me to play around. It ended up getting WAY bigger than that, but that is a story about 1000 pages long.

I think it's an excellent idea. Go for it.

  2. Playing music for the joy of doing so is the best reason to learn to play a musical instrument.

Might this one also recommend that you try your hand (an ear) on playing a baroque flute called a "recorder"?

Maple wood gives a bright clear tone, pear is a bit more mellow and with a little practice, any tune you can whistle you can pick out and play!

Beatle songs, Celtic ballads and xmas carols sound great!

    Please, have fun!

  3. I think its a great idea.  I do it all the time.  I initially learned to play the piano (7 years) and was very good at it.  However, I also loved the way a guitar sounded.  I got a generic electric guitar ($129), and I play to my heart's content.  If your really serious about playing, you can invest in a quaility guitar.

    Have fun!

  4. I think that is the best possible reason to play. Also, much better than spending hours playing a fake guitar on a video game.

  5. I think it's awesome because i want to learn to play the guitar so i can be in my room playing the guitar while getting over a heartbreak.

  6. Go for it! Learning music has to be one of the top ten things in life, you can carry it on in old age, share it with the world or have the privacy of playing for yourself. Go for it, and do awesome the entire time!

P.S., if you do decide to share it with the world and become a star, save me some seats for your next concert! :D

  7. It is the only reason to learn. If it takes you somewhere that is as joyful all the better.

I have been in professional music for over 40 years. The best guitar player I ever heard, never played in public, never made a recording. He is a very happy construction worker.

  8. i agree with the first person.

  9. yup, do it, as long as your prepared to do it for a long time, not just a week,

i did guitar for the sheer joy of it aswell, i've done it for years and everyone thinks im amazing (hopefully) :-)
