Looks to me like he wants to become a boxer. Those items can be expensive but maybe you could chip in on something. Or just buy him a jump rope.

I don't know why Maddy thinks it is not a good idea. I don't see anything wrong with training to become a boxer though I personally think boxing is a dumb sport.
