What do you think of my idea to help the environment?

Don't you think it would help the environment if we sent all our garbage and waste into outerspace? We could make a galactic landfill right there at the international space station. What do you think?

  1. Oh so we are already ruining our planet, why not ruin the Universe as well? Not even a good idea.

  2. Maybe we could just send it to another planet so it could evolve into life!

  3. The amount of waste that would result from constructing the rockets to put the waste in space would be several times the weight of the waste itself. Space travel is very costly and the effort it needs is a lot more than a more humble use of the little that we have still got.

  4. I love it, we could even send the republicans up there to manage it all.

  5. Didn't Russia try that and have it backfire?  I remember hearing in high school that the rocket carrying all the trash blew up and all the trash fell back to earth.  I can't find any sources to support what I'm saying, so it might have been some urban myth started by NASA to discredit the Russian space program.  (This was 12 years ago, back when Cold War myths were still widely disseminated.)

Anyway, it looks like they're doing the opposite and bringing ISS trash back to earth.

  6. Nope it would not help the environment just cause more problems. Got a brilliant idea myself, why not redesign stuff so it can be timed biodegradable, after say six months these new substances would biodegrade. We know about this automatic 'time releases' from studying how mussels are released from rocks at an exact time. See the biomimicry link below:

Or what about if all plastic packaging was edible and contained wild flower seeds so when an animal ate it, they delivered the wildflower or fruit seeds into a nice pile of fertilizer.

  7. your name soots you

    we are already

leaving enough garbage in space with broken down satellites.

We are supposed to handle our garbage like any other living creature does .

you magnify the concept that humanity is a parasitic virus about to consume its host

I dont think the Annunaki will allow it ,

that we now start contaminating the cosmos as well.

  8. Can I be in charge of the landfill?  i want to fly around in a little space ship and move garbage around, plus I could keep an eye out for alienses way better up there

  9. Launching rockets also causes pollution.

  10. I think your idea is ludicrous.  Trashing out the galaxy with our trash isn't solving anything it's just removing it from our sight, so we don't have to see it.  That's not dealing with our problem to recycle, use biodegradable, and be more responsible for our home, the earth.

  11. Good idea...but we should put it in a space barge and send it towards the sun.  Then it would just burn up.

  12. I think we could make a high powered gun and punt it into the sun.

  13. Way to expensive!

Space Shuttle in 2000 dollars is around $4700 per pound.

The Ariane (another large rocket) in 2000 dollars is around $4100 per pound.

Nobody could afford to launch millions of tons of trash each year let alone the trash for even a small town or...household.

Maybe if we can come up with the technology needed for a Space elevator some of the nasty stuff could get lifted.

It would be a horrible idea to just let the trash drift.  The Sun is an option or sacrifice part of the moon but all in all, dealing with it here is the best option.

  14. The trash pickup bill  might go up just a bit (LOL).

What's the carbon footprint of a Saturn 5 rocket?

  15. No offense, but I think it's kinda
