I wrote this when I was 15 while in high school watching student pass me at lunch. Does it make sense? What do you think? What do you think it means?

Disarm us of our humble eyes

And let us all be over-wise

In taking on a brand new role

Ceasing knowing of the toll

Our condescending eyes arise

To what we think are modest cries

But what we think is more than vile

We've strolled an inch, they ran a mile

But what a cloak of skin does cause

Is the knowing of each and every flaw

It's simple to judge another grin

But not to see what lies within

  1. wow I really really like it, I wrote something like this before its called "A table over" and I used a line like yours "It's simple to judge another grin

But not to see what lies within"

but mine was like this "She looks about the room with eyes so distant and dull, but with in I can hear her silent cries that do reach out in a helpless call"

I like the last part of the poem the very best

"But what a cloak of skin does cause

Is the knowing of each and every flaw

It's simple to judge another grin

But not to see what lies within"

    10/10!!

  2. Like I've told the others who have written rhyming poetry . . . it's c**p!  Get this through your head . . . not all poetry has to rhyme.  I'm a HARSH critic of poetry.

By the way April, what is your last name?  My aviator has my last initial, which is also the letter D.  What are the chances we have the same last name?

    Oh, yeah . . . STOP rhyming!

  3. Wow!!Awesomeness!!You're very perceptive...and..yes..your poem makes perfect sense....It(to me)means people are judged by their "outside" appearance when they should be judged on their humanity,sympathy,kindness,honesty,etc.....

And you are right!  :)  :)

  4. Amazing and true

    You are a wonderful poet

    Keep it up!
