These are the poems that I have written in the last three weeks. Are they good? ( And forgive me, I'm only 16 and English is not my first language).

Thanks.

  1. You have a gift my friend! Don't let it go to waste!

  2. When you choose your words, think of all the connotations that goes with them. Its obvious that english isn't your first language, not because you don't have a great command of it. But because your vocabulary is much greater than that of an average american 16 year old. And it sounds like you've read alot of Keats. (Who can help it?) Keep visiting them, and make changes as you continue to explore poetry. They will be amazing. Stay Strong.

  3. Two things about writing poems when English is not your first language.

One, always write poems in the same language that you dream in. I say this because it will be difficult to communicate those things in your unconscious when your unconscious speaks a different language than what you are writing in. The unconscious is always working on/in any poem you write, whether you realize it or not. So it is important to keep the conscious and unconscious speaking in the same language. This is what I've learned from many bilingual poets--significant and not yet significant bilingual poets.

Two, make it new. While the writing here was pretty good, it's all be done. Talk about today in today's language, not what's been said in yesterday's language. Tell me what you see/think today. Be you!

You've got some skill for a 16 year old, so keep working at it.
